About

Overview

War of 1812 Tower Defense drops you into one of history's most underrated conflicts, putting you in charge of placing troops on the battlefield to stop the enemy from breaking through. You pick a side — the United States or the United Kingdom — and then defend your position across a growing set of historical maps. This guide covers how to get started, how to hold the line, what maps and events to tackle, and how to make the most of playing with others.

Picking a side and starting your first round

Step
In short Choosing your faction and surviving one round gets your first two badges and tells you how the game feels.

Before anything else, the game asks you to choose: United States or United Kingdom. Both sides play the same way — you place troops, hold your position, and try to stop the enemy advance — so pick whichever flag you prefer.

  1. Pick a faction choose the United States or the United Kingdom when the prompt appears; both earn you a faction badge just for selecting.
  2. Place troops on the path put your units where the enemy has to walk through them.
  3. Survive to the end finishing your first round earns the First Battle! badge; winning it earns Victory! as well.
  4. Try the other side playing the opposing faction in a later session earns the second faction badge.

Holding the line: troop placement

Tips
In short Concentrated, path-focused placement is the core of defence.

Placement is the core skill in this game. The enemy follows a set route, so every unit that sits off that route is wasted. Space on the battlefield is limited, so think before you commit.

Tips worth knowing
  • Crowd the enemy's route — units placed directly on or flanking the enemy path deal damage for longer than units placed anywhere else.
  • Layer your defence — a single line of troops can be broken; two or three overlapping layers are much harder to punch through.
  • Spend placement slots carefully — once the map fills up you cannot move units, so a bad early placement can hurt you for the whole round.

Limited-time events and what they give you

Warn
In short Event modes disappear when their season ends, so play them while they are live.

The game runs seasonal events that add special modes with their own rewards. Past events included Halloween, Winter, and Spring runs, each depositing items directly into your inventory on completion. The Alamo event gave out the James Bowie tower and the Alamo Defenders Infantry and Marine skin. The 2026 Halloween mode has two difficulty tiers — Normal and Nightmare — with the Normal clear rewarding the Witch skin.

Worth watching out for
Check your inventory after every event clear rewards are added there automatically.
The Alamo event rewards the James Bowie tower and the Alamo Defenders Infantry and Marine skin.
The 2026 Halloween Normal difficulty rewards the Witch skin; Nightmare difficulty rewards are TBD.

Soloyou control every placement but cover less of the map.
Co-opother players fill sections of the path you cannot reach alone, creating a tighter overall defence.
07

Known issues to play around

Warn
In short The game is actively in development, so bugs and balance changes are part of the experience right now.

The developers have stated openly that the game is still in development and that bugs, missing features, and balance problems should be expected. If something behaves strangely it is worth reporting to the developers rather than assuming you played incorrectly.

Worth watching out for
Expect occasional bugs the developers have flagged this publicly.
Report problems to the developers in-game bugs are easier for the team to fix when players actually flag them.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I play alone, or do I need a group?

You can place troops and defend on your own without any other players in the room. Rooms support up to 35 players at once.

Which badges should I go for first?

Start with First Battle! and Victory! since they come from simply playing and winning a round. After that, work through the individual map Victory badges, and keep the three Revolutionary War maps in mind as a combined goal that pays out Commander in Chief and every event skin.

What happens if I miss a seasonal event?

Past events like Halloween 2025, Winter 2025, and Spring 2026 are no longer available once their season ends. The rewards and badges tied to them cannot be earned after the event closes.
