Hot Potato Guide: How a round works
About
OverviewHot Potato is a Roblox minigame where one player holds an explosive potato and must tag someone else before it blows up — then that person has to pass it on. Players get knocked out round by round until two are left, at which point the game switches to a one-on-one duel. This guide covers the core rules, how to survive each round, how to win the duel, and how to spend your earnings.

How a round works
StepEach round starts with one potato appearing somewhere in the game. Whoever holds it must physically touch another player to pass it over. That player then becomes the one who needs to pass it, and the cycle continues until someone is caught holding it at the wrong moment. Eliminated players wait in the lobby while the survivors move to the next round.
- One potato appears the player holding it must pass it before it explodes.
- Pass it touch another player to hand the potato over.
- Survive the blast if you do not have it when it goes off, you stay in.
- Advance survivors carry on to the next round while the eliminated player waits.
- Final two when only two players remain, the game switches to duel mode.

Staying alive in a full lobby
TipsA packed lobby means more chaos and less time to think. The explosion comes with audio and visual warnings, so paying attention to those signals rather than guessing saves you from being caught off guard. Sticking to open areas gives you more room to move, which matters when you need to close distance fast.
- Listen and watch for the explosion warning — audio and visual cues tell you how much time is left.
- Target the nearest player when you are holding the potato, not someone across the map.
- Stay in open spaces so you can move quickly in any direction.
- When an explosion is about to go off nearby, put distance between yourself and the blast point.
The final duel
TableWhen the lobby shrinks to two players, the rules shift into duel mode. Safe ground is much more limited with only two people in the arena, and your opponent has survived every previous round, so expect them to move quickly and deliberately.
| Player count | two survivors, no one else to pass to. |
| Safe space | far more limited than in a full-lobby round. |

FAQWhat happens after I get eliminated?
You return to the lobby and wait for the current game to finish. There is no penalty for being eliminated — you simply sit out until the next game starts and then jump back in.
