Weapon types and when to use them
TableEach weapon category fills a specific role. Using the wrong gun at the wrong distance costs you fights that should be winnable.
| Sniper | high damage at long range, but no follow-up shot if you miss |
| Assault rifle | reliable at medium range, good for one-on-one duels |
| Shotgun | dominant up close, especially in narrow corridors and indoor areas |
| SMG | very high fire rate, best used at close range with fast movement |

Movement and positioning in combat
TipsRecoil is a fast game, so staying in one spot gets you killed quickly. Your movement is as important as your aim.
- Slide sideways when you are being shot at — it disrupts the enemy's aim
- Use obstacles and walls to break line of sight, then push from a new angle
- Lead your shots — aim where the enemy is moving, not where they are standing
- Build a killstreak by staying out of bad fights instead of forcing every engagement
Climbing the rank ladder
StepRank shows your skill level and sets you against opponents at a similar standard. Pushing it higher means more competitive matches.
- Stack kills every kill adds to your rank points
- Chase high scores the more points you earn in a match, the faster your rank rises
Cosmetics and skins
SummaryThere are over 90 weapon skins available, and you can open cases to try for rare cosmetics. None of it changes your weapon's performance — every player competes on equal footing regardless of what their gun looks like.
- Weapon skins change appearance only, no gameplay effect
- Cases opened to earn rare cosmetics
- Free-to-play all weapons are available without spending anything
Things that will get you permanently banned
WarnThe rules are strict and there is no way to appeal a ban once it is issued.

Common questions
FAQCan I play for free without being at a disadvantage?
Yes. All weapons are available to every player at no cost. The only things behind cases are weapon skins, and those change how your gun looks without affecting damage, fire rate, or anything else that matters in a fight.
What platforms can I play Recoil on?
Recoil runs on PC, mobile phones, tablets, Xbox, and PlayStation.
How does rank work?
Rank goes up as you earn kills and score points in matches. A higher rank means you are matched against stronger opponents, so it is a direct measure of how far your skill has come.
