In short Learn the core inputs before your first match so you are not fumbling mid-fight.

Three game modes and when to play each

Table
In short Each mode plays differently enough that knowing what you are loading into changes how you should arm yourself.

After every round the lobby gives you a chance to vote on the next map and mode. Rounds cycle through Free-For-All, Traitor Trouble, and Team vs Team depending on the map selected.

Free-For-All30 minutes, infinite lives, infinite ammo, most kills wins; City Rooftops always runs this mode
Team vs Team30 minutes, infinite lives, infinite ammo, red vs blue team kill count decides the winner; team barriers block the enemy but can be destroyed with enough damage
Traitor Troubleup to 10 minutes, no respawns once dead, no item vendors or buy menu; weapons must be found at fixed spawns around the map
Lobby1 minute 45 seconds between rounds; fists deal no damage here, and the round winner carries a balloon gun

Traitor Trouble roles in detail

Step
In short Knowing your role the moment you spawn is the single most important thing in Traitor Trouble.

Roles are assigned randomly at the start of each round. In VR, glance at the 'TT' text on your left wrist: red means Traitor, green means Innocent, blue means Detective. Shooting the wrong person has hard consequences, so confirm your role before you draw.

  1. Check your role look at your left wrist in VR or wait for the objective pop-up; do this before moving
  2. Innocent find and kill the traitors before they kill you; the detective shows as a blue dot on your map; shooting a fellow innocent costs up to 250 credits the first time and kills you the second
  3. Detective you are the only player who spawns with a Python and a detector; point the detector at someone at close range and pull the trigger to learn if they are Innocent or Traitor; the scanner recharges after scanning a Traitor; killing an innocent kills you instantly
  4. Traitor work with up to two other traitors, who appear as red dots anywhere on the map; steal holstered weapons from other players; with one minute left or fewer than three players alive you can see all surviving players as colored dots

Getting weapons in each mode

Tips
In short Item vendors are the main weapon source in FFA and TVT; in Traitor Trouble you search the map instead.

Knowing where weapons come from saves time in every match.

Tips worth knowing
  • In FFA and TVT, item vendors spawn at fixed spots on each map — City Rooftops has 5, Happy Home has 8, Ruins has 8, Amsterville has 6, Crossroads has 4
  • To use a vendor, take credit coins from your ammo pouch and insert them into the coin slot on the right side of the machine; 10 credits total are needed; then press the yellow button to receive a random item
  • You can insert up to 100 credits into one vendor at a time, but the machine only needs 10 to dispense
  • When you are close to a vendor, point your hand at a nearby item and it highlights white; holding the grab button pulls it straight to your hand
  • In Traitor Trouble there are no vendors; weapons sit at fixed spawns spread across the map, so explore quickly at the start of the round
  • Crate-exclusive weapons — including the AS VAL, Laser Spitter, Laser Pistol, Spas-12, Saiga-12, and Super Shotgun — only appear inside dropped crates, not from vendors

Gamepasses worth knowing about

Table
In short Each gamepass targets a specific playstyle.

All prices are in Robux. VR-only passes do nothing for desktop or mobile players, so check the platform column before buying.

Map features that affect your strategy

Summary
In short Each map has a different size, vendor count, and layout, so adjust your playstyle when the map changes.

Some maps also lock into specific modes, which limits your choices at the vote screen.

  • City Rooftops always Free-For-All; 5 vendors, 5 mounted LMGs, explosive barrels, a shooting range; the day/night cycle hurts performance
  • Crossroads smallest map; 4 vendors, 1 mounted LMG
  • Happy Home large map; 8 vendors, 1 mounted LMG; always FFA
  • Ruins small map; 8 vendors, 1 mounted LMG, 1 hidden unmounted LMG, 2 secret guns; has both a ground level and a walkable upper level
  • Amsterville medium fenced town; 6 vendors, 1 unmounted LMG, 3 secret guns; the train through the far tunnel can be derailed for the Crazy Train badge; spawn points are far from the main area
  • Transthud Oil Rig 7 vendors, 1 unmounted LMG in a hard-to-reach spot
  • G.S. Challenger Traitor Trouble only as of October 16, 2025; a large moving ship with up to four accessible floors and 9 item spawners

Glossary

Glossary
Item Vendor
A vending machine found in FFA and TVT maps that dispenses a random weapon or item when you insert 10 credits and press the yellow button.
Credits
The in-game currency used to buy items from vendors and the spawn menu; credit coins worth 5 each come from your ammo pouch.
Lethal
A player tag indicating a high-threat player; killing a Lethal player earns 5 bonus credits, and killing the same one 10 times in a round earns the Bounty Hunter badge.
Detector
A limited-use tool exclusive to the Detective role in Traitor Trouble that reveals whether a nearby player is Innocent or Traitor when aimed at them; it recharges after scanning a Traitor.
Mounted LMG
A heavy machine gun fixed to a position on the map that any player can use but cannot pick up and carry.
Fine China
A group of melee weapons — the Man Mug, Woman Mug, and Winning Smile plate — required to earn the Inevitable Fate badge.
Nuke Pistol
A special pistol referred to in-game as the blue pistol; picking it up for the first time earns the Havoc badge.
Cosmetic Solvent
An item that removes a skin from a weapon; with the Reusable Cosmetics gamepass the skin is returned to you instead of being destroyed.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I play without a VR headset?

Yes. Desktop and mobile players can join any public server. Mobile players need the Rifle and Shotgun Access gamepass to pick up most guns, and some VR-exclusive gamepasses have no effect on other platforms. The game was designed for VR, so some interactions feel different without a headset.

What happens when I die in Traitor Trouble?

You become a ghost that living players cannot see or hear. Hold the jump button to fly around the map as a spectator. Players who join after the round timer hits five minutes cannot spawn in.

How do I get weapons in Traitor Trouble when there are no vendors?

Weapons sit at fixed spawn points scattered around the map. The Detective is the only player who begins with a weapon — a Python and a detector. Traitors can also steal holstered items directly from other players.

How do team barriers work in Team vs Team?

Each team's base is protected by a barrier that lets your own team pass through but blocks the enemy. The barriers can be broken by stacking enough damage on them, but they regenerate after a set time. Bullets cannot pass through an intact barrier.
