OVERKILL — How a match works
About
OverviewOVERKILL is a fast-paced shooter on Roblox where you pick upgrade cards between rounds to build your own fighting style. Every match is a race to 5 points, played in teams, duels, or free-for-all. This guide covers how rounds work, how to pick cards, how to handle each mode, and what to fix when you keep losing.

How a match works
SummaryOVERKILL runs on a simple loop: fight a round, then pick a card upgrade before the next round starts. The first player or team to reach 5 points wins the game. Joining with friends gives you extra rewards on top of the normal match rewards.
- Win condition first to 5 points takes the match
- Modes teams, duels, or free-for-all
- Card phase pick one upgrade card after each round ends
- Friend bonus joining with friends earns additional rewards
- Daily quests new quests appear every time you log in
First steps in your first match
StepOVERKILL moves fast, so the first few seconds of a match matter. Check which mode you are in before you do anything else, because teams, duels, and free-for-all each demand a different approach. After your first round ends, you will see a card selection screen — that choice sets the direction of your whole build.
- Check your mode confirm whether you are in teams, a duel, or free-for-all before you move
- Stay out of the open use walls, pillars, and ledges to cut the time you spend exposed
- Fire from cover step out to shoot, then step back before you reload
- Pick your card choose the upgrade that fits how you want to play the next round
- Reload safely always duck behind cover before you reload, never in the open
Picking cards that actually help you
TableThe cards worth picking early are the ones that still work even when your aim is off. Save the high-risk, high-reward cards for when you are comfortable with the game's speed.
| Rapid fire / multi-shot | easier to land hits, good for players still finding their aim |
| Lifesteal / health / healing | lets you survive longer and practice positioning without dying constantly |
| Slow / freeze / burn | buys you time to line up shots by limiting enemy movement |
| High single-hit damage | powerful, but only useful once your aim is already consistent |
| Ricochet / trick-shot | requires deep map knowledge, best left for experienced players |
Playing each mode differently
TipsAll three modes share the same 5-point goal, but how you reach it is very different. In teams you are never alone; in a duel every decision is magnified; in free-for-all every player on the map is a threat.
- In team matches, fight alongside your teammates and focus on the same target they are targeting rather than hunting alone
- In team matches, stay beside or just behind your teammates — too far forward draws all the fire, too far back and you cannot help anyone
- In duels, watch which type of card your opponent is using and adjust your distance accordingly — stay moving against a rapid-fire build, and dodge the first shot of a heavy-damage build before you return fire
- In free-for-all, avoid staying in the middle of the map for long, because you will be shot from multiple directions at once
- In free-for-all, look for opponents who are already weakened, take the point, and immediately get back to cover
Staying alive in a firefight
CheckKeeping your crosshair at roughly the height of an opponent's body means you have less distance to move it when someone appears. Strafing left and right in small steps while shooting makes you harder to hit.
- Crosshair height keep it at body level so you are ready the moment an opponent steps out
- Lateral movement strafe left and right in short steps while you fire to reduce the hits you take
- Cover discipline step out to fire, step back in immediately, never stand still in the open
- Reload location move behind a wall before you reload, every single time
- Ammo awareness when your magazine is nearly empty, retreat and reload rather than chasing
When you cannot seem to win
CheckIf you are losing round after round, check your positioning and your card picks first, because those two things cause most of the problems new players run into.
- Dying instantly every round check whether you are running into the centre at the start, and consider adding a health or healing card
- Shots not connecting move closer, and pick a rapid-fire or multi-shot card
- Getting caught reloading make sure you are behind cover before every reload
- Cannot score in teams confirm you are targeting the same enemy your teammates are, not chasing isolated opponents
- Cards feel weak check the shop to see if stronger or more useful cards are available to unlock

Common questions
FAQWhich mode should a new player start with?
Team matches are the most forgiving place to start. You can watch how your teammates move and learn the map without having to handle every threat alone. Stay beside or just behind your team rather than pushing ahead on your own.
Can you play for free and still compete?
All three match modes are fully playable without spending anything. Cosmetic items like emotes and kill effects can be purchased, but they have no effect on match results.
Do the cards I unlock disappear if I lose?
Cards you have unlocked through the shop stay unlocked regardless of whether you win or lose.
Why do I keep getting eliminated right at the start of rounds?
The most common cause is moving straight into the middle of the map the moment the round begins. Try moving along the edges and using cover instead, and add a health or healing card to your build.
