About

Overview

The Cat Shelter is a Roblox escape-and-chase game where every player is either a cat trying to break out of a shelter or a caretaker trying to stop them. The two sides play completely differently, so this guide walks through both roles, what to do when you're stuck, and how to get the most out of every round.

Your role at the start of a round

Check
In short Knowing which team you landed on before you move is the single most important thing you can do at the start of a round.

When a round begins, the game assigns you to either the cat team or the caretaker team. Each side has a different win condition, so acting on the wrong goal wastes your whole round. Take a moment to confirm your role, then orient yourself inside the shelter before anything else.

  • Check your role cat or caretaker — before you take a single step
  • Learn your team's goal cats escape, caretakers prevent escape
  • Walk the shelter to get a feel for its layout and possible exit routes

Playing as a cat

Step
In short Cats win by collecting what they need and getting out of the shelter, ideally with help from teammates.

As a cat, your goal is to escape the shelter and make it to the outside world as a feral stray. You have several tools to reach that goal.

  1. Scout the shelter look for tunnels you can dig and secrets hidden in unexpected spots
  2. Collect weapons and keycards steal them from the shelter to unlock doors and defend yourself against caretakers
  3. Rescue other cats freeing teammates keeps your numbers up
  4. Fight back when cornered you can confront caretakers and security rather than only running
  5. Escape the shelter use the exit you've uncovered and become a feral cat outside, then spread chaos across the city
03

Playing as a caretaker

Tips
In short Caretakers win through constant patrol, sharp observation, and protecting the items cats need most.

Caretakers are responsible for keeping order inside the shelter. Cats will be actively tunneling, grabbing keycards, and stealing weapons.

Tips worth knowing
  • Patrol the shelter regularly so cats cannot safely prepare an escape
  • Watch for cats behaving suspiciously near walls, floors, or item locations
  • Guard weapons and keycards closely, since cats need those items to reach the exit
  • Confront cats who are moving toward exits or carrying items
04

When you feel stuck

Check
In short Most dead ends come down to missed items or unexplored parts of the map.

If you're a cat and the round isn't moving forward, the shelter has more to it than the obvious paths. Hidden passages and items in out-of-the-way spots are easy to overlook on a first pass.

  • Search less obvious areas behind walls and under floors can hide tunnels or items you haven't found yet
  • Account for every item type weapons, keycards, and other collectibles the shelter contains
  • Check in with teammates and share what you've already found
  • Keep the round timer in mind
05

Getting more out of each session

Tips
In short Switching between the two roles and playing with friends turns a single game into two very different experiences.

The cat side and the caretaker side feel almost like separate games. Trying both over multiple rounds shows you how the other team thinks. Playing with friends lets you coordinate on the same team or split up and compete against each other.

Tips worth knowing
  • Play both roles across different rounds to understand how each side thinks and moves
  • If you escape as a cat, explore what you can do outside the shelter as a feral stray
  • Group up with friends and divide into cat and caretaker teams for a more competitive session
