About

Overview

Search For The Needle is a chill farm game where you clear a giant pile of hay to find the hidden needle inside. You collect hay, sell it to a cow, and spend the money on upgrades that make the next run faster. The game has multiple chapters beyond the starting Farmhouse, each with its own goal and badge. This guide covers getting started, upgrading efficiently, finding the needle, and progressing through later chapters.

Getting started in the Farmhouse

Step
In short Starting on Normal with a party size of one is the fastest way to learn how the game works.

When you enter the lobby, walk to the entrance marked FARMHOUSE. A setup screen opens where you choose your difficulty and party size. Pick Normal for your first run — Hard requires stronger upgrades than you will have at the start, and it gets frustrating quickly. Set Party Size to 1 if you want to play alone, then press CREATE to enter the map.

  1. Find the entrance walk through the lobby until you see the FARMHOUSE sign and go inside.
  2. Set difficulty to Normal this gives you room to learn the collect-sell-upgrade loop without the pressure of Hard.
  3. Set Party Size choose 1 to play solo, or a higher number if friends are joining.
  4. Press CREATE double-check your settings, then hit the button to load into the map.

The core loop: collect, sell, upgrade, repeat

Check
In short Every trip follows the same three steps, and drilling that rhythm early makes everything else easier.

Once you are in the map, the goal display at the top of the screen tells you what to do next. While it shows Collect Hay, click or tap the haystack to fill your bag. Your bag holds 25 hay at once, so when it is full the display switches to Give the Hay to the Cow — that is your signal to head to the barn window. Sell your hay to the cow, then open the upgrade menu and spend your money before going back to the stack.

  • Goal display reads Collect Hay click or tap the stack until your bag is full.
  • Bag holds 25 hay once it is full, extra clicks do nothing, so head straight to the cow.
  • Goal display reads Give the Hay to the Cow walk to the barn window and perform the Sell action.
  • Upgrade menu is open buy at least one upgrade before returning to the stack.
  • Back at the stack repeat the loop until the needle is uncovered.

Upgrade order that keeps income moving

Tips
In short Buying Speed first, then Grasp, keeps your income growing steadily from the very beginning.

The upgrade menu lists options including Hand, Speed, Grasp, Hold, Dynamite, and Pitchfork. Speed shortens every trip to the cow. Grasp raises how much hay you pull per click. Dynamite and Pitchfork clear large areas at once.

Tips worth knowing
  • Buy Speed first — shorter trips to the cow mean you complete more sell cycles.
  • Buy Grasp second — once movement is fast, higher collection per click fills the bag quicker.
  • Wait on Dynamite and Pitchfork until income is stable — they are powerful but not the priority early.
05

Finding the needle without missing spots

Step
In short Dividing the haystack into zones and clearing each one fully before moving on is the most reliable way to reach the needle.

The needle is hidden somewhere inside the stack, and there is no confirmed fixed location it appears in every run. Checking only one spot over and over will not get you there reliably. Instead, split the stack into rough zones — front-left, front-right, center, and back — and finish one zone before starting the next. After using Dynamite or Pitchfork, small leftover clumps of hay can hide right where you just cleared, so always do a final sweep of that area.

  1. Divide the stack into zones label them mentally as front, center, and back so you know what is left.
  2. Use landmarks the barn, the fence, and any trees are fixed markers that help you track your progress.
  3. Finish one zone before moving resisting the urge to jump around prevents you from circling the same spots.
  4. Sweep after using tools Pitchfork and Dynamite leave small clumps behind, so check the cleared area again.
  5. Return to a landmark if you get disoriented restart your sweep from there in one consistent direction.
06

Chapters beyond the Farmhouse

Step
In short Each chapter has a distinct goal and its own badge, so clearing them in order is the clearest path forward.

The game extends well past Chapter 1. Chapter 2 takes place in the Basement and ends when you find the key and escape. Chapter 3 asks you to defeat a boss and drive away. Chapter 4 and a Graveyard map with a Pumpkin Boss round out the current content. Start by earning the Found the Needle badge in the Farmhouse, then check the lobby for the Basement entrance to begin Chapter 2.

  1. Complete Chapter 1 find the needle in the Farmhouse and earn the Found the Needle badge.
  2. Enter the Basement look for its entrance in the lobby, then find the key and escape to finish Chapter 2.
  3. Clear Chapter 3 defeat the boss and drive away to earn the Finish Chapter 3 badge.
  4. Tackle the Graveyard map defeat the Pumpkin Boss there as part of the Chapter 4 content.
  5. Track your progress with badges your badge list shows exactly which chapters you have completed.

Common places players get stuck

Warn
In short Most frustrating moments come from missing a goal-display change, not from a bug or a difficult mechanic.

Several problems come up repeatedly for new players, and almost all of them trace back to the same cause: not checking the goal display before acting. Keeping one eye on that bar saves a lot of pointless back-and-forth.

Worth watching out for
Clicking hay that will not increase your bag is already full and the goal has switched to selling; go to the cow.
Standing at the cow and nothing happens your bag is not full yet, or the upgrade menu is still open behind another window.
Covering the same ground repeatedly pick a landmark and sweep in one direction from it rather than wandering.
Picking up the needle but nothing completing follow the goal display all the way to the hand-off step and the result screen before you leave.
09

Two currencies and the class system

Table
In short Money and gems are completely separate, and you do not need gems to finish a Normal run.

The game uses two different currencies that serve very different purposes. Mixing them up leads to confusion about what you can and cannot afford. Knowing which is which from the start keeps your planning clear.

Moneyearned by selling hay to the cow; spent on Speed, Grasp, and other in-run upgrades.
Gemsa separate currency used for longer-term unlocks like classes.
Classesroles that assist with carrying, selling, or tools; obtained by spending 40 gems per draw, with random results.
Classes in a first runoptional, not required to find the needle on Normal.
10

Staying safe while you play

Warn
In short The game itself has no combat, but the shared lobby means normal online safety rules still apply.

Search For The Needle has no fighting or player-versus-player elements. The lobby is shared, chat is visible, and the shop includes paid items.

Worth watching out for
Never share personal information in chat your name, school, or contact details have no place there.
Ignore anyone asking you to visit an outside link or hand over a code block and report them.
Do not use external scripts that claim to auto-collect or auto-sell they risk your account and your password.
Talk to a parent or guardian before buying anything in the shop check the price, the effect, and whether it is permanent.
The base game is completable without paid items everything needed to find the needle on Normal is available for free.

Common questions

FAQ

Does the needle always appear in the same spot?

There is no confirmed fixed location for the needle across runs. Sweeping the whole stack in zones is more reliable than returning to one specific spot you saw in a video.

What happens after I pick up the needle?

The goal display updates with a follow-up step, such as handing the needle to a specific NPC. Complete every step the display shows, all the way to the result screen, before leaving the game. Quitting right after picking it up can mean the completion does not register and the badge does not arrive.

Can I continue a run if I leave partway through?

There is no confirmed save system that preserves your hay progress and upgrades between sessions.

Do I need paid items to finish the game?

No. Normal mode is completable using only the free upgrades you buy with hay money. Paid items shorten trips and speed up collection, but the needle can be found without them.

Why can't I get into the Basement?

The Basement is the Chapter 2 area and its entry conditions can change with updates. Check the lobby for a visible entrance and read any in-game announcements for the current requirements.

What are Chapters 2, 3, and 4 about?

Chapter 2 takes place in the Basement — find the key and escape to clear it. Chapter 3 tasks you with defeating a boss and driving away. Chapter 4 includes a Graveyard map where you take on the Pumpkin Boss.

Does the game play differently on a phone versus a computer?

The core loop is the same, but screen size and controls differ. On a phone or tablet, switching to landscape mode and pulling the camera back a little lets you see both the haystack and the path to the cow at the same time. Close any upgrade or reward menus after you are done with them so they do not crowd the screen.
