Positions and how a match starts

Step
In short The game assigns you a role automatically, so know what each role asks of you before the ball is in play.

When you join a match you are placed on either the red team or the blue team. From there the game gives you a position — pitcher, batter, or fielder. Each role has different controls, so the first thing to do is check which one you have.

  1. Check your team confirm whether you are on red or blue.
  2. Find your position head to the spot the game shows for your role.
  3. Read the on-screen popup it tells you what to do next for your position.
  4. Ask a teammate since this is a team game, teammates can explain things quickly if you are unsure.

Pitcher controls

Tips
In short The catcher signals the speed they want, and you aim your pitch to keep batters guessing.

The catcher uses mouse clicks to request pitch speed. Mixing up your pitch location and speed makes it much harder for the batter to connect.

Tips worth knowing
  • Left-click throws a fast pitch; right-click throws a slow pitch — follow what the catcher requests.
  • To pitch a no-hitter or perfect game, avoid giving up any hits, walks, or runs for the entire game — these are among the hardest achievements to earn.
03

Batter controls

Tips
In short Timing and pitch selection are the two things that separate a strikeout from a home run.

Watch the ball as it leaves the pitcher's hand and decide quickly whether to swing. Right-clicking during your swing also lets you check your swing motion, which is useful for adjusting your timing.

Tips worth knowing
  • Right-click to swing at a pitch you want to hit.
  • Right-click during your swing to check the swing — use this to study and fix your timing.
  • For the Hit a Cycle achievement you need one single, one double, one triple, and one home run all in the same game.

Practice tools and extra modes

Check
In short Batting Practice mode and the 1v1 mode give you more focused ways to improve outside of a full nine-on-nine match.

Several features let you tailor how you play. Some are available to everyone; the Batting Practice tools require a VIP Server.

  • 1v1 mode is available to all players and lets two people compete without filling a full nine-person roster.
  • Type "set park" in chat while at the Batting Cages to change which ballpark you are playing in.
  • On a VIP Server, type "bp on" in chat to start Batting Practice mode, and "bp off" to end it.
  • In Batting Practice, press Spacebar to make the pitcher throw.
  • In Batting Practice, press H to toggle hints on or off.
  • In Batting Practice, press B to show or hide the strike zone.

Common questions

FAQ

How do I start Batting Practice?

You need to be on a VIP Server. Once there, type "bp on" in chat and the mode activates. Use Spacebar to pitch, H to toggle hints, and B to show or hide the strike zone.

How is a Perfect Game different from a No Hitter?

A no-hitter only requires that you allow no hits or runs. A perfect game goes further — you cannot allow any hits, any walks, or any runs, so every single batter must be retired cleanly.

Can I play with just one friend?

Yes. The 1v1 mode lets two players compete without needing a full team on either side.

How do I change the ballpark?

Go to the Batting Cages area and type "set park" in chat. The command only works from that location.
