Your first few minutes
StepEverything in Race Horses flows from one loop: buy an egg, hatch it, race the horse, and feed it apples to level it up. The game keeps earning for you even after you close it.
- Find the egg shop look for the EGGS sign and pick an egg that fits your current cash.
- Place the egg in your stable buying the egg doesn't start the hatch timer; you have to place it first.
- Open the egg when the countdown hits zero, open it and check the horse's rarity and traits.
- Enter your first race register your horse and see how it does; a new race runs every minute.
- Collect apples grab apples from the trees in the central area and feed them to your horse for XP.
Horse rarities
TableThere are seven rarity tiers. Every horse's coat, eye size, and traits are chosen randomly, so no two horses look exactly alike. Shiny variants exist as a visual distinction, but a shiny horse's earning power comes from its rarity tier, not from the shine itself. Hatching your first horse at each tier earns you a badge.
| Common | starting tier, earned by hatching your first egg |
| Uncommon | first step up; unlocks the Racing Stripes badge |
| Rare | mid tier; unlocks Flying Colors |
| Epic | unlocks Runaway Fashion |
| Legendary | high tier; unlocks Stallion Supreme |
| Mythic | near the top; unlocks Mythical Beast |
| Exotic | the highest tier; hatching one earns you the Fruity Foal badge |
Earning cash from races
TipsRaces happen every minute, so a horse sitting idle is a horse not earning. The race itself runs automatically — your job is to make sure the right horse is entered. Once you're comfortable, switch on Auto Race to cut down on manual registration. One thing worth knowing: finishing last doesn't always mean earning the least. The Secret Victory badge goes to a player who earns more cash in last place than the first-place racer does, which shows that payout and finishing position aren't always the same thing.
- Keep your horse entered in races constantly — idle horses don't earn.
- Use Auto Race to reduce the number of times you have to manually register.
- Check both your finishing position and your cash payout separately after each race.
- Hurdle races are a separate challenge — winning one earns the Ooh! Aah! badge.
- Earning $100,000 or more in a single race unlocks the Racer's Riches badge, so watch your per-race payouts as your horses improve.
- Win 10 races with the same horse to unlock the Horsepower badge.
Feeding and leveling your horses
CheckApples come from trees in the central area, and feeding them to a horse gives it XP that pushes it toward the next level. Your inventory has a limit, so feed your horse to clear space before going back for more.
- Feed apples regularly to clear inventory space so you can keep collecting.
- Feed the same horse 100 apples total to earn the Apple A Day badge.
- Push one horse to level 30 to earn the Man's Best Friend badge.
- Before retiring a horse, confirm it has 10 or more wins that's the requirement for the So Long, Partner badge.
- Fill your highest-level stable with the maximum number of horses to earn the Full House badge.
Stable upgrades
WarnUpgrades can require a certain number of horses, specific horse levels, or particular rarities, not just cash. If the upgrade button isn't available despite having enough money, one of those other conditions hasn't been met yet.
Horse care between races
StepHorses can get muddy and the stable floor can get messy, both of which you can deal with using the right tools. Caring for your horses gives extra XP. The wait between races is the natural time to do this.
- Use a sponge on a muddy horse get close to it first, then apply the tool.
- Use a shovel on droppings that appear on the stable floor.
- If a tool stops responding, check that you're close enough to the horse or the mess and move in again.
- Scan for dirty horses and floor mess during the minute between races.
Badges worth planning for
SummaryMost badges come naturally, but a handful require you to put yourself in a specific situation. The Shooting Star badge — winning on a horse's very first race — is easy to miss if you enter a new horse without leveling it first. Final Stretch, which requires finishing both first and last in the same race, only happens in specific race conditions.

Common questions
FAQDoes my stable earn cash when I'm not playing?
Yes. Race Horses is an idle game, which means your horses keep earning while the game is closed. When you log back in, the cash they accumulated will be waiting for you.
Can I choose what my horse looks like?
No. Coat color, eye size, and traits are all assigned randomly when you hatch an egg. Because of this, no two horses in the game look exactly the same.
Does the Apple A Day badge count apples fed to different horses combined?
No. You need to feed 100 apples to the same single horse. Spreading apples across multiple horses won't count toward it.
How do I get the Shooting Star badge?
Win a race on a horse's very first time racing.
How does the Final Stretch badge work?
You earn it by finishing both first and last place in the same race.
How do I get rarer horses?
Buy higher-tier eggs from the egg shop. Which horse hatches from any given egg is always random, but higher-tier eggs give you a chance at higher rarity results that standard eggs don't.
