The core gameplay loop

Step
In short Every run follows the same cycle: shoot, dodge, loot, level, and push deeper.

Combat in Pixel Quest revolves around bullet-hell rules — enemies fire waves of projectiles and your job is to weave through them while shooting back. Defeating enemies earns experience points that level your character up and also drops loot you can equip to grow stronger. Quests give you clear objectives to chase, and dungeons are the toughest challenges the game puts in front of you.

  1. Shoot and dodge projectiles.
  2. Pick up loot gear that drops from enemies directly upgrades your character.
  3. Level up experience from kills makes your character stronger.
  4. Complete quests finishing assigned missions gives you structured progress through the world.
  5. Clear dungeons with friends cooperative play lets you tackle the hardest stages as a group.

What to do when you are defeated

Summary
In short Death is not the end; Valor Tokens carry real benefits into your next character.

Pixel Quest has roguelike elements, meaning a defeated character sends you back to the lobby rather than ending your session entirely. The key reward for going down in battle is Valor Tokens, which persist between characters and give you something tangible to spend before your next run.

  • Valor Tokens earned each time your character is defeated in battle.
  • Cosmetics spend tokens to change the appearance of your next character.
  • Power-ups tokens can also be used to buy power-up boosts for your next run.
  • Retry return to the lobby and start fresh with the bonuses you have already banked.
  • Permadeath mode an optional mode where a defeated character cannot be used again, available for players who want a harder challenge.

Choosing power-ups mid-run

Tips
In short Picking the right power-up for the situation at hand can change how the rest of a run plays out.

Killing enemies sometimes causes a power-up to appear. When multiple options are offered, you pick one and leave the rest, so your choice shapes your build for that run.

Tips worth knowing
  • Power-ups drop from enemies during combat.
  • You will sometimes choose from several options at once.
  • Combining power-ups can change your approach to combat.

Common questions

FAQ

Is dying in Pixel Quest permanent?

Not by default. When you are defeated you earn Valor Tokens, return to the lobby, and start a new character. Permadeath mode is an optional setting that makes death permanent for that character, but you have to choose it deliberately.

How do I level up?

Defeating enemies earns experience points that level your character up. Equipping loot dropped by enemies also makes your character stronger.

Can I play Pixel Quest with friends?

Yes. You can complete quests and clear dungeons with friends.

What can I spend Valor Tokens on?

Valor Tokens can go toward cosmetics to change your character's appearance or toward power-ups for your next character.
