Overfreight — The core gameplay loop
About
OverviewOverfreight! is a Roblox railway simulation where you lay track, set up cargo routes, and keep freight moving across a large map. Up to eight players can build on the same map at once. This guide walks you through the core loop, common mistakes to avoid, and the long-term goal of finishing all research.

The core gameplay loop
StepStart by finishing the tutorial, which teaches the basics and unlocks the first badge. From there, place track and stations to connect a source to a destination, then set a route so trains can haul cargo between them. Completing deliveries earns reputation, which you spend to unlock new research and open up more of the game.
- Finish the tutorial it covers controls and earns you the Begin the freight! badge.
- Lay track and stations connect the places you want freight to flow between.
- Set cargo routes decide what gets picked up, where it goes, and which train handles it.
- Deliver freight completed deliveries earn reputation.
- Spend reputation on research each unlock adds new options and moves you toward the endgame goal.
How cargo chains work
WarnCargo chains are the heart of the game's logistics puzzle. Each material has a specific path it must follow, and skipping a step makes the whole route fail. The most common trap is trying to send raw iron straight to a steel mill — it looks like it should work, but the route is invalid. Iron ore has to be processed into iron ingots first, then sent on to the steel mill. Sand works differently: delivering it to a special industry triggers a production boost.

Track layout mistakes and how to avoid them
CheckSeveral badges exist specifically because these errors are easy to stumble into. Check each of these before you extend your network.
- Remove unused track abandoned lines sitting on your network cause problems and should be cleared out.
- Watch elevation changes at intersections building a junction where the ground rises or falls can leave empty gaps at merge points where track cannot connect properly.
- Avoid 4-by-4 merges unless you are confident in the layout they are a known cause of broken intersections.
- Verify every route's cargo type before activating it a route carrying the wrong material is flagged as invalid.
Playing with others
TipsUp to eight players can join the same map and build together. Completing a delivery that crosses into another player's area counts as a cooperative milestone.

The long-term goal: finishing all research
TableResearch unlocks are what give you new tools and capabilities over time. There are two categories: those you buy with reputation and those that require diamonds. The endgame badge, Overfreight!, is awarded for completing every research item in the reputation-only category. Keep delivering cargo, bank your reputation, and work through the list one unlock at a time.
| Reputation research | unlocked by earning and spending reputation from cargo deliveries. |
| Diamond research | a separate category not required for the Overfreight! badge. |
| Endgame badge | awarded when all non-diamond research is complete. |
| Midpoint reward | unlocking electric locomotives triggers a gift event along the way. |
Glossary
Glossary- Reputation
- Points earned by completing cargo deliveries, used to unlock new research.
- Research
- Upgrades and new features you unlock by spending reputation, with some requiring diamonds instead.
- Cargo chain
- A sequence of steps a material must go through in the correct order before it reaches its final destination.
- Abandoned track
- Track left on your network that is no longer part of any active route.
- Diamonds
- A separate resource required for a specific subset of research items, distinct from reputation.
- Invalid route
- A cargo route that is rejected because the wrong material is being sent to a destination, such as raw iron going straight to a steel mill.
Common questions
FAQWhy won't my iron reach the steel mill?
Raw iron cannot be delivered directly to a steel mill — that route is always invalid. You need to route the iron ore to a processing step that turns it into iron ingots first, then send the ingots on to the steel mill.
Can I complete everything without spending on diamonds?
Yes. The Overfreight! badge requires finishing all research that does not need diamonds, so the main endgame goal is fully achievable through regular play. Diamond-gated research exists as a separate category and does not block the core completion.
What happens if I build a bad intersection?
An intersection built with elevation differences, or using a 4-by-4 merge, can leave empty gaps at the merge points where track fails to connect. Trains cannot pass through those gaps properly, so the affected section of your network stops working until you fix it.
