About

Overview

Holloway: She Hears is a 1–6 player horror game where you and your friends are trapped in a school after dark and must find codes to escape while avoiding a creature that tracks every sound you make. This guide covers how to survive each night, how sound works against you, what the difficulty settings mean for your lives, and which badges you can earn along the way.

01

Before your first night

Step
In short Sorting your difficulty and settings before you enter the school saves you from unpleasant surprises mid-run.

Every session starts with a lobby where you pick your difficulty and check your settings. Getting these right before the night begins matters because you cannot change your life count once you are inside.

  1. Pick a difficulty Easy gives you 4 lives, Normal 3, Hard 2, and Insane only 1.
  2. Decide on voice chat you can play the whole game without a mic, but know that speaking into one will attract her, which is covered in the sound section below.
  3. Open settings flashing lights, jumpscare volume, and performance mode can all be adjusted from inside the game.
  4. Collect your daily reward the game offers one each time you log in, so grab it before you head in.
  5. Choose your group the game supports solo play, a private session with friends, or matchmaking with strangers.

How a run works

Summary
In short Your only goal each night is to find the codes and reach an exit before you run out of lives.

The loop is straightforward: search the school for codes, avoid her while you do it, then escape through one of the exits once you have what you need. Losing all your lives means you switch to spectator mode and watch your teammates finish without you.

  • Goal find the codes hidden around the school and use them to escape through an exit.
  • Locker hiding you can duck into a locker to break line of sight, but you cannot stay inside indefinitely.
  • Lives each hit costs a life; reach zero and you move to spectator mode for the rest of that night.
  • Spectator mode you watch your remaining teammates from the sidelines and cannot interact with the run.
  • Cost the game is free to play and you can reach the escape without purchasing anything.
03

Sound as a threat

Warn
In short Every noise you make is information she uses to find you, so treat silence as your most important tool.

She does not chase you at random. She moves toward the sounds players produce, which means your own behaviour is the biggest factor in whether she reaches you.

Worth watching out for
Hitting or slamming a locker produces noise that gives away your location.
Speaking into a live microphone sends your voice into the game world, and she will move toward it.
Turning voice chat off removes mic noise as a threat entirely.
She tracks footsteps, locker sounds, and mic audio all at the same time.
04

Difficulty levels and what they unlock

Table
In short Harder difficulties reward more prestigious badges, with A-grade clears on Hard and Insane each unlocking their own extra badge.

Each difficulty has its own badge for escaping, and Hard and Insane have a second badge reserved for players who escape with an A grade.

Badges earned over time

Check
In short Several badges reward repeated play and social activity rather than a single clean escape.

Beyond the difficulty badges, a handful of achievements track longer-term milestones.

  • Hall Pass finish your very first night at Holloway High.
  • Night Shift survive 25 nights total across any number of sessions.
  • Bring a Friend have a friend join the game through your personal invite link.
  • Trick or Treat 2026 unlock a Halloween 2026 skin using candy; only available during October 2026.

Common questions

FAQ

Do I need a microphone to play?

No. The game works fine without one. Voice chat raises the tension because speaking attracts her, but it is entirely optional and you can escape on any difficulty without ever using a mic.

Can I play alone?

Yes. The game supports one to six players, so a solo run is a valid choice. You can also join with friends privately or fill the lobby through matchmaking with strangers.

Is there anything I have to buy to finish the game?

Nothing. The game is free to play and you can reach the exit and escape without purchasing anything.
