Every move you make raises your speed by one, and each evolution you reach multiplies how fast that number climbs going forward.
The loop is straightforward: move, gain speed, evolve, repeat. Each step adds exactly one to your speed total. When your speed hits the threshold for your current animal, an evolution button becomes available. Evolving also opens a new area of the map.
