Chameleon Guide: How the two roles work
About
OverviewChameleon is a hide-and-seek game on Roblox where hiders use a paint system to match their character's color to the walls, floors, and furniture around them. Seekers then comb the map looking for anything that seems out of place. This guide covers how both roles work and how to get better at each one.

How the two roles work
TableEach round splits players into hiders and seekers. Hiders get preparation time to paint themselves and find a spot before seekers start hunting. The round ends when either all hiders are caught or time runs out with at least one hider still free.
| Hiders | paint your character to blend into the map, then stay hidden until time runs out |
| Seekers | search the whole map and catch every hidden player before the clock hits zero |
| Winning condition for hiders | survive to the end without being caught |
| Winning condition for seekers | find every single hidden player in time |

Getting started as a hider
StepWhen you spawn as a hider, the preparation time is your most valuable window. Open the paint system straight away, look at the colors around you, and choose something that matches. After painting, pick a position that hides your outline as well as your color.
- Check the room look at the walls, floor, and large furniture before you choose a color
- Open the paint system change your character's color to match what you just observed
- Test the match move to your hiding spot and see whether your color still fits from a distance
- Hide your outline stand against a wall or tuck behind furniture so your character's shape is less obvious
- Use busy backgrounds areas with patterns or varied textures make slight color mismatches much harder to spot
Staying hidden longer
TipsEven a perfect color choice can give you away if your position is careless. These habits keep you in the game.
- Press your back against a wall so the edge of your character does not stick out into open space
- Pick locations with complex textures nearby, because small color differences are easier to miss against a detailed background
- After each round you are caught, notice exactly what gave you away and adjust your color or position next time
Finding hidden players as a seeker
CheckSeekers need to cover the whole map without rushing past anything suspicious. No hider can perfectly match their surroundings, so you are always looking for something slightly off. Revisiting areas you already checked is worth doing because a second look often reveals what the first one missed.
- Look for color that does not quite match the wall or floor around it
- Watch for rounded or human-shaped outlines in spots where the furniture is flat or angular
- Check corners and enclosed areas those spots are easiest to overlook
- Scan every section of the map at least twice before assuming it is clear
- Walk closer to anything that looks slightly off a small color difference is much clearer up close
Learning the maps over time
SummaryThe game features multiple maps, each with its own set of colors and layouts. Playing the same map several times teaches you which spots hiders favor and which colors blend best in each room. Watching where experienced players hide or how they search is one of the fastest ways to pick this up.
- Map variety multiple maps mean each session can look and feel different, so color choices that worked before may not work again
- Repeat plays running the same map a few times reveals the go-to hiding corners and the easiest-to-miss areas
- Role rotation both roles teach you something useful about the other, so switching between hider and seeker improves your overall game
- Observation watching what veteran players do in a round gives you hiding spots and search patterns you would not find on your own

Common questions
FAQHow are hiders and seekers assigned?
Roles are assigned automatically when a round starts. You do not choose which side you are on.
Can I play with friends?
Multiple players can be in the same map at the same time, hiding and seeking together.
What happens if seekers do not find everyone in time?
Any hider who is still undiscovered when the timer hits zero wins that round. Seekers only win by catching every single hidden player before time runs out.
