OverviewHellhole is a Roblox shooter where you drop into a dark vertical shaft and fight your way deeper, gunning down hordes of enemies as you go. You grow stronger by cracking open loot and stacking upgrades, then push further down each run. This guide covers controls, the core loop, upgrades, and a few things to watch out for as an alpha game.

Hellhole supports both keyboard-and-mouse and a controller, and the bindings differ between them. On PC, the mouse is locked to the screen by default, but you can free it whenever you need to.

The core loop — drop, fight, loot, upgrade, repeat
StepIn short
Every run follows the same cycle.
Each session begins the moment you drop into the shaft.
- Drop into the shaft you land at the top of the pit and the run begins immediately.
- Gun down the horde enemies swarm you as you descend, so keep shooting and keep moving.
- Crack open epic loot loot appears as you progress; opening it gives you upgrade material.
- Stack your upgrades spend the material to strengthen your character across multiple categories.
- Go deeper with better stats you can push further down than your last run before dying.

Tips
In short
Every upgrade can be stacked multiple times, letting you keep pouring material into the same slot instead of being forced to spread it around.
Upgrades cover weapon performance, health, speed, and other abilities. Every upgrade can be stacked multiple times.
Tips worth knowing
- Every upgrade category can be stacked as many times as you want.
- Loot from defeated enemies and from epic loot crates both feed the upgrade pool.
- The game has no paid upgrades, so every improvement comes purely from the loot you collect in runs.

Alpha version — what to expect

Because Hellhole is still in alpha, a couple of quirks are worth knowing before you sink hours into it.
The game is in active development and bugs are expected. There is also one important limitation around how progress is saved that affects everyone in a session.

Glossary
Glossary- Shaft
- The dark vertical pit you drop into at the start of every run — the entire game takes place inside it.
- Epic loot
- Crates found during a run that contain material used to upgrade your character.
- Stack
- Applying the same upgrade multiple times to keep increasing its effect.
- Sprint
- A faster movement mode activated with Shift on PC or L3 on a controller.
- Host
- The player whose machine runs the session; saves are stored on their side only.

FAQWhy did my progress disappear after a session?
Saves are stored under the host only. This is a current limitation of the alpha version.
My mouse is stuck on the screen — how do I free it?
Press Ctrl on PC to unlock the mouse and return to normal cursor movement.
