How a round works
StepEscapees need to bring the right items to each scanner and activate it. Once all three scanners are done, the trapdoors unlock and you can leave. If Happy catches you first, you are out.
- Collect items grab the items a scanner needs from shelves, produce sections, or the floor.
- Activate the scanner bring your items to the scanner and complete it; do this for all three.
- Escape through the trapdoors once the third scanner is done, head to the trapdoor and get out.
Staying alive as an escaping player
TipsHappy moves into elimination mode the moment it spots a player. Your radar tracks how close Happy is. Several in-game events can make this harder by disabling radars, slowing you down, or blocking aisles.
- Watch your radar at all times — it shows how close Happy is, and during the Radio Wave event it goes dark.
- Avoid floor spills — walking through one slows you down.
- Steer clear of fake trapdoors — touching one jumpscares you and deals damage.
- Use the magnet to stun Happy — the magnet can buy you escape time and earns you the Truly Electrifying badge.
- Pick items off the floor — NPCs wander around and drop items randomly, and a dropped item close to a scanner you need can save you a long trip.
- Do not drop items carelessly — Happy earns a speed boost each time it collects a dropped item, so losing your goods makes Happy faster.
Events that change the round
TableThese events are chosen at random. Knowing what each one does lets you adjust quickly.
| Event | What it does |
|---|---|
| Radio Wave | Disables all players' radars |
| Spawn Malfunction | Half of item spawns drop to the floor, letting Happy collect them for a speed boost |
| Floor Spill | A spill appears that slows any player who walks through it |
| Extra Happy | An additional Happy bot spawns |
| Reduced Vision | 20% of your vision is cut |
| Fake Trapdoor | A fake trapdoor spawns that jumpscares and damages you on contact |
| Blocked Aisle | A random aisle is sealed with caution tape |
Pushing other players and dealing with NPCs
TipsYou can push other players, and if they are carrying an item when you do it, the item drops and you can pick it up. NPCs roam the store the same way real players do, but they have no heart icons above their heads. Pushing an NPC gives you a 30% chance of making them drop whatever they are holding.
- Target NPCs for an item grab — there is no retaliation from NPCs, and a 30% drop chance is worth the attempt when you need an item quickly.
- Scan items you find on the floor — the Still Good badge confirms that floor-picked items work in scanners just like shelf items.
Playing as Happy
TipsWhen you are assigned as Happy, your job is to stop players from completing all three scanners. You have a vacuum ability to slow players down, and you earn speed boosts from collecting items players drop. As the monster, you can also pick up fifty items in one round to earn the Keep It Clean badge, or prevent every player from escaping for the 5 Star Customer Service badge.
- Collect dropped items immediately — each one stacks a speed boost, making you faster until you hit a player or the timer resets.
- Use your vacuum near groups — slowing multiple players at once near a scanner delays their progress.
- If you are using the Elite killer, take advantage of the passive — players are revealed for five seconds after completing a scanner, so move toward the scanner immediately when it activates.

Common questions
FAQCan I play alone?
Yes, you can complete all three scanners and escape on your own.
What happens if Happy catches me?
You are eliminated from that round.
Do items picked up from the floor count for scanners?
Yes. The Still Good badge is specifically awarded for scanning an item that was picked up from the floor, confirming that floor items work at scanners.
Why does Happy suddenly get faster mid-round?
Happy earns a speed boost each time it collects an item dropped on the floor, and those boosts stack. When the Spawn Malfunction event is active, half of all item spawns land on the floor automatically, giving Happy many more chances to speed up.
