Your first steps in Star Town

Step
In short Getting your first stars and talking to a couple of NPCs sets you up for everything that follows.

When you join, you get the Starter Rod for free from the Rod Merchant. Head to the Milky Way, the only fishing area available at the start, and cast into space. The three stars you can catch right away are the Asteroid Star, the Gold Asteroid Star, and the Comet Star — all Common rarity and all reachable with Strength 1.

  1. Pick up the Starter Rod it costs nothing and is waiting for you at the Rod Merchant in Star Town.
  2. Cast into the Milky Way this area opens with Rod Strength 1 and gives you Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic stars.
  3. Talk to the Electrician first his quest takes only 5–10 minutes and pays $3,000 plus 100 Gems, a solid head start.
  4. Pick up the Starter Bobber it is free and found in Star Town.

Fishing areas and the rod strength you need

Table
In short Each area locks behind a rod strength threshold, so upgrading your rod is what literally opens the map.

Check your current rod's Strength stat before travelling to a new area. Arriving without the minimum means you cannot fish there.

Upgrading your rod and bobber

Tips
In short Spending on rods and bobbers together gives you better luck, faster reels, and access to every area on the map.

Rods are sold at the Rod Merchant up to the Space Rod ($15,000) and Moon Rod ($35,000). Beyond that, you need to unlock specific locations. The Crystal Rod and Crystal Bobber only become available after you gain access to Crystal Cave. The Frozen Flame Rod and Bobber are sold at the Library, and the Crimson and Fungal lines are tied to Shadow Crypts and the Glowing Grotto respectively.

Tips worth knowing
  • The Plastic Rod costs just $5 and immediately raises your Strength to 2 and your Luck to +15.
  • Bobbers matter as much as rods: the Basic Bobber ($5) lets you hold 3 stars at once instead of 1.
  • The Crystal Rod (+8 Strength, +400 Luck) and Crystal Bobber (+200 Luck, 9-star capacity) are available in Crystal Cave.
  • The Fungal Rod costs $15,000,067 and the Fungal Bobber the same amount — they require reaching the Glowing Grotto.

Playing in Alpha

Warn
In short Because the game is in Alpha, bugs and balance changes are expected — report bugs in-game and you can earn rewards for it.

The game page explicitly states that bugs and changes should be expected during Alpha. The developers ask players to use the in-game bug-report feature rather than ignoring issues, and reward players who do.

Worth watching out for
Use the in-game bug report tool whenever something breaks the developers offer in-game rewards for valid reports.
The developers also welcome ideas for new content and quests through the same feedback channel.
