Modes and difficulty levels
TableThe game offers several distinct modes beyond the standard wave survival run. Each has its own goal and its own set of challenges.
| Rookie | the starting difficulty; your goal is to finish a full run and beat the mini boss |
| Cadet and above | next step up from Rookie; clearing a full run here is a real milestone |
| Elite and Master | the hardest standard difficulties; G-Man appears as the final boss |
| Heavy Guns | a base-defense mode where keeping your base standing is as important as killing enemies |
| Heavy Guns: JUGGERNAUT | a harder version of Heavy Guns with G-Man 2.0 as the final target |
| DESTROY THEM! | an attack mode where your goal is to destroy the enemy base before the clock runs out |
Choosing and upgrading your operator
TipsFour operator types are available: Cameramen, Speakermen, TV-men, and Titans. Every one of them comes with its own weapons, abilities, and an ultimate move. Upgrading an operator unlocks a stronger version of that same character. Between waves you also pick power-up cards, which let you shape how that specific run plays out.
- Upgrade your chosen operator to unlock its stronger form
- Stronger operator versions are unlocked through upgrades
- Ultimates are separate from regular weapons and abilities
Wave milestones to aim for
StepWave count is the main measure of progress in the standard survival mode. There are clear checkpoints along the way.
- Wave 5 first real checkpoint; clear it in Heavy Guns to hit First Stand
- Wave 10 reach this to earn Dug In
- Wave 20 get here without going down once and you earn Unbreakable at the same time
- Wave 30 and 40 back-to-back goals earning No Retreat and Deep Water
- Wave 50 completing all 50 waves finishes Chapter One; this is the full-run goal
- Boss count your first boss kill earns Giant Killer, and taking down five bosses in one run earns Boss Hunter
Squad play and reviving teammates
CheckSquad runs support up to 24 players, and the revive system is what keeps everyone in the fight. A downed player is not out — a teammate can bring them back.
- Revive any one downed teammate during a squad run to earn Brother in Arms
- Revive five teammates in a single run to earn Combat Medic
- Land a 25-hit combo to earn Chain Reaction
Heavy Guns base defense
WarnIn Heavy Guns your own base has a health bar, and how you manage it determines which achievements you can chase.
DESTROY THEM! — attacking the enemy base
StepUnlike the defensive modes, DESTROY THEM! puts you on offense. There are three stages of success.
- Get the enemy base below half health to earn Breach
- Destroy the base completely to earn Demolition Crew
- Destroy the base with at least ten minutes still remaining to earn Blitz
