About

Overview

Scary Fishing puts you and up to 29 other players on a crab fishing ship in a cold, hostile ocean where something much worse than crabs is waiting beneath the surface. Your crew catches crabs, hauls traps, completes fishing contracts, and tries to make it back to port in one piece. This guide covers how a shift works, what can get you killed or fired, and what it takes to earn every badge.

How a shift works

Step
In short A shift runs from departure to port return, and everything you do in between determines whether you survive.

Each session you play as a hired crew member aboard a crab fishing ship. Your core jobs are operating the vessel, hauling in traps, sorting what you catch, and completing fishing contracts. The shift ends when you either make it back to port or something goes badly wrong.

  1. Haul traps deploy and retrieve traps to catch crabs, then sort them as your contracts require.
  2. Complete fishing contracts finishing contracts is one of the main goals of a shift.
  3. Watch the ship's condition flooding and other onboard problems need to be dealt with or the shift ends early for everyone.
  4. Survive the full shift and return to shore to earn the Survived badge.

Threats that grow the farther you sail

Warn
In short Distance from shore directly increases the danger.

Strange creatures climb up from the depths as you move farther from shore, and some of them are larger than the ship itself. Others move in ways that do not make sense, and some simply watch from below.

Worth watching out for
Upgrade your equipment and prepare for unexpected encounters before venturing into dangerous waters.
Never ignore a ship emergency a flooded, broken vessel kills the whole crew.
Creatures can be larger than the ship itself.
03

The four badges and what they tell you

Table
In short Three of the four badges mark ways a shift can end; only one rewards exceptional skill.

Each badge reflects a specific outcome. Reading them tells you exactly what the game is measuring and what to avoid.

BadgeHow you earn itWhat it means for your play
SurvivedComplete a shift and make it back aliveThe baseline goal every session
FiredMake the boss angry during a shiftFailing your crew duties has consequences beyond just dying
FloodedFail to keep the ship operationalNeglecting ship maintenance ends the run for everyone
Elite EmployeeBeat story mode with zero mistakesThe hardest badge — demands a perfect run from start to finish
04

Going for Elite Employee

Step
In short Elite Employee requires a flawless story mode run, so treat it as a separate challenge from normal play.

Story mode is distinct from a standard shift, and a single mistake disqualifies you from the badge.

  1. Enter story mode this is a separate mode from a regular crab fishing shift.
  2. Complete the mode with zero mistakes to unlock the badge.
