How the stages are laid out

Summary
In short The game runs through more than 30 checkpoints, mixing platforming, puzzle, and boss stages back to back.

Each checkpoint saves your progress so a death sends you back to the nearest one rather than to the very beginning.

  • Checkpoints there are more than 30, and each one locks in your progress
  • Glass Bridge Stage 13, a crossing stage
  • Red Light, Green Light Stage 14, a timing stage that follows immediately after Glass Bridge
  • Darkness stage Stage 25, completable without a flashlight for a bonus badge
  • Pyramid escape a stage where dying even once costs you the clean-run badge
  • Page collection a stage where you must find and collect 8 pages before escaping

Step

This is a special stage with two distinct badge goals.

  1. Clear the stage beat the Wega Challenge from start to finish to earn the completion badge.
  2. Survive the beacon once the beacon activates, stay alive for five full minutes to earn the second badge instead.
05

Endgame challenges after the final stage

Step
In short Beating every stage is just the starting point for three harder goals that test speed, efficiency, and raw difficulty.

Once you have earned the Winner badge for clearing all current stages, additional challenges offer further replay value.

  1. Speedrun reach checkpoint 30 from checkpoint 1 in under 45 minutes to earn the Professional Speedrunner badge.
  2. Low-death run make it from checkpoint 1 to checkpoint 30 using no more than 10 deaths total.
  3. Kaizo mode a separate mode described by the developers themselves as brutally difficult; complete it to earn the final badge.

Common questions

FAQ

Is it normal to die hundreds of times?

Completely normal. The game hands out badges for dying 100 times and again for dying 1,000 times. Keep going.

Do I need to pay for a private server?

No. Private servers in Steamhappy are free.

Can I beat Steammocking by myself?

Yes. There is a dedicated badge for defeating Steammocking solo. You can also bring teammates and still earn the standard clear badge.

What should I do after I clear all the stages?

Three post-game challenges are waiting: a speedrun from checkpoint 1 to 30 in under 45 minutes, the same stretch with no more than 10 deaths, and Kaizo mode, which the developers describe as extremely difficult.

What happens if I take a shortcut or an offer that looks suspicious in-game?

The badges named 'Gullible' and 'I was too curious' exist because players keep falling for them — the game is designed with fake-out paths and false promises.
