How a round works
StepEach round starts with a 30-second intermission in the Camp Lapis lobby, where players vote on the next map. The map with the most votes is picked, and ties go to the leftmost option. Once the round begins, Survivors drop into the map while the Beast is held in the Beast Cave for 15 seconds — that head start is your window to move.
- Watch for the gemstone glow the Beast carries a gemstone that emits light and triggers a heartbeat sound when it is nearby, so listen carefully.
- Hack computers you need Survivor count plus one computers hacked to power the exit doors.
- Reach the exit once the doors are unlocked, get out before the Beast freezes the rest of your team.
Hacking computers
CheckThe number of computers you need to hack equals the number of Survivors in the round plus one. If a player leaves mid-round, the required count drops so the remaining team is not stuck with an impossible target.
- Press E on PC or X/□ on console to start hacking when standing at a keyboard in front of a glowing computer.
- Handle Skill Checks carefully failing one makes an error sound that the entire server hears, turning the computer screen red and alerting the Beast to your location.
- Three Survivors on one computer cuts the solo time of 64 seconds down to 20 seconds and reduces Skill Checks from six to two.
- After a computer is fully hacked, its screen turns green.
- You can still hack extra computers after the exit doors open for additional XP and credits.
- Crouching, jumping, or briefly stepping away while hacking can reduce total Skill Check exposure, since checks appear some time after a hacking session starts.
Survivor movement and hiding
TipsSurvivors have a few tricks the Beast cannot match. Crawling is activated by holding Shift on PC, tapping C on mobile, or pressing LT on console. The Beast cannot crawl, so any vent or tight gap you squeeze through is a route they cannot follow. Your jump height stays the same while crawling, and you can double jump even in that position.
- Use vents to cut off a chase — the Beast cannot enter them.
- The Beast loses speed for 0.8 seconds after landing from a jump.
- Hiding in a locker keeps you off Seer's radar entirely, though the Beast can still check lockers by hand.
- When you hear the heartbeat sound, the Beast is close.
- If a teammate is downed, split responsibilities: one person attempts the rescue while others keep hacking rather than everyone rushing the same spot.
Beast powers compared
TableAt the start of the round, the Beast has 15 seconds in the Beast Cave to choose one of three powers. If no choice is made, Runner is assigned automatically. Each power changes how you chase and catch Survivors.
| Runner | grants a three-second speed burst but prevents jumping while active. |
| Stalker | hides the gemstone glow and chase music, removes the jump speed penalty, speeds up door opening, and lets you hit a Survivor without triggering the normal three-second movement halt. |
| Seer | places an icon above every Survivor who is not hiding in a locker. |
Playing as the Beast
CheckThe Beast plays in first person and carries a hammer. Hitting a Survivor downs them but normally locks your movement for three seconds. You then rope the downed Survivor and carry them to a Freeze Pod. Stay at the correct distance from a pod to keep its health drain active — standing too close counts as camping and pauses the drain.
- You are locked into first person, so learn each map's layout to avoid getting disoriented during chases.
- Jumping reduces your speed for 0.8 seconds avoid unnecessary jumps in chases unless you have Stalker.
- After hitting a Survivor, activate Runner during the three-second halt to cancel the movement penalty if you did not pick Stalker.
- Memorize where computers, exit doors, and Freeze Pods are on each map.
- Seer does not reveal Survivors in lockers, so check lockers manually when someone goes quiet.
- If a Survivor disconnects while downed or captured in a Freeze Pod, you still earn the XP and credits as if they were frozen.
Earning credits
SummaryCredits are the main currency and are used to buy hammers and gemstones from crates. You earn them through in-round actions, or you can purchase them with Robux from the main menu. The VIP gamepass gives 15% more credits per round.
- Finishing a hack (Survivor) 6 credits, awarded only to those present at completion.
- Saving a teammate from a Freeze Pod (Survivor) 20 credits, once per round.
- Escaping through the exit (Survivor) 25 credits.
- Freezing a Survivor (Beast) 25 credits and 200 XP per Survivor; freezing all four earns 800 XP and 100 credits total (as of the 2024 Christmas Update).
- VIP gamepass 15% more credits earned each round.
Map voting and common problems
TipsThere are 15 maps currently in the game, plus 2 event maps. Voting happens during the 30-second intermission. Private servers can also play old removed maps. On rare occasions a player can spawn stuck in the floor; if that happens and you cannot free yourself, rejoining the server is the fix.
- Ties in the map vote go to the leftmost option shown on screen.
- If nobody votes at all, the previously played map repeats automatically — even if it is not one of the four options shown.
- If you spawn stuck in the floor, rejoin the server; there is no in-game fix.
- If a Beast drags a Survivor into the top of the map, that Survivor can respawn by jumping off the edge.

- A device the Beast uses to slowly drain a captured Survivor's health; when it hits zero, that Survivor is frozen and sent to Camp Lapis.
- Downed
- The ragdolled state a Survivor enters after being hit by the Beast's hammer, leaving them helpless until roped.

- Seer
- The Beast power that displays an icon above every Survivor who is not hiding in a locker.

Common questions
FAQWhat happens if I get frozen — is it game over for me?
Once the Freeze Pod drains your health to zero, your skin turns blue and you are sent back to Camp Lapis. The round continues for any Survivors still in the map, so your teammates can still escape and win.
Can the Beast see me when I am in a locker?
Not if the Beast is using Seer — that power only reveals Survivors who are out in the open. Hiding in a locker keeps you off Seer's radar, though the Beast can still find you by checking lockers manually.
What happens if no one votes for a map during intermission?
The map from the previous round is loaded again automatically. This applies even if that map is not among the four options shown in the vote.
Does the Beast always have to pick a power?
No — if the Beast ignores the power selection during the 15-second head start, Runner is assigned automatically before the Beast spawns into the map.
How many computers do I need to hack to open the exits?
The required number equals the number of Survivors in the round plus one, so four Survivors need five computers hacked. If a player leaves mid-round, the required count drops to account for the smaller team.
Can I adjust my chance of becoming the Beast?
Yes — the main menu shows your current Beast chance for the next round, and you can spend 15 Robux to slightly increase or decrease it.
