Getting into the game the right way

Step
In short Joining the main group and social link before you do anything else is required to make progress.

This is a group-based experience, so the game will not let you advance until you have joined the main group and the social link. Once those are done, pick a public server — that is the recommended way to play.

  1. Join the group find the main Roblox group and the social link and join both before launching.
  2. Pick a public server when the server list appears, choose a public one.
  3. Choose your side select survivor if you want to explore and stay alive, or ASYNC if you want to take the research role.

Areas you can reach

Tips
In short The game spans several distinct locations, and reaching each one is a goal in itself.

Each area has its own atmosphere. Several carry badge rewards just for setting foot in them.

Tips worth knowing
  • KV31 acts as the gateway between worlds.
  • The Trainstation leads into a network of tunnels whose destination is not obvious.
  • The Pitfalls demand careful movement; slipping is a real risk.
  • The Poolrooms feel calm at first, but the eerie atmosphere is present.
  • Lower Pits sits beneath areas you have already explored — there is more to the world than the upper levels suggest.
  • The Nest and Level FUN are deeper still, and Level 7 involves water.
03

Entities that can kill you

Check
In short There are several distinct enemy types. Every entity badge is earned by dying to that enemy.

Entities are the creatures that inhabit the Backrooms. Every entity badge is earned by dying to that enemy, so you will need to let each one catch you at least once if you are going for full completion.

  • Smilers are one of the named entity types with their own badge (SMILE).
  • The FRIEND OR FOE? badge is earned by dying to any crab.
  • Dying to a mantis, stalker, or fogling earns the INFESTATION badge.
  • The magnifica strain has its own dedicated badge (MAGNIFICA).
  • The Praefectus strain has its own dedicated badge (MATRIARCHY).
  • HORDE requires deaths from every bacteria strain, including magnifica and Praefectus.
  • MULTIMORTEM MASTERO requires a death from every single entity in the game.
04

Badge completion

Summary
In short Split the 18 badges into two tracks — area exploration and intentional entity deaths.

Some badges come naturally as you explore. The entity badges require you to deliberately seek out enemies and let them kill you.

  • Area badges earn these by physically reaching KV31, the Trainstation, the Pitfalls, the Poolrooms, Lower Pits, the Nest, Level FUN, Level 8, and Level 7.
  • Single-entity badges earn INFESTATION by dying to a mantis, stalker, or fogling; earn SMILE by dying to a smiler; earn FRIEND OR FOE? by dying to a crab.
  • Strain badges earn MAGNIFICA by dying to the magnifica strain and MATRIARCHY by dying to the Praefectus strain.
  • HORDE requires dying to every bacteria strain.
  • MULTIMORTEM MASTERO requires a death from every existing entity.
