Backrooms is a solo horror exploration game inspired by K. Pixel's series, set in a strange, liminal world of endless corridors and unsettling entities. This guide covers how to survive your first runs, navigate the levels, handle encounters, and make the most of the items you find.
You enter by noclipping out of reality, which happens inconsistently and depends largely on luck. Keep an eye out for terminals — rare glitches in the environment that serve as doorways. Most players arrive at Level 0, though a small number start in Level 1 or Level 2.
The next survey is being prepared.
Panicking is your first real enemy. Losing your sense of direction or making noise both put you at risk right away. Every time you enter a new location, repeat this mental checklist before moving on.
Events running now or coming soon. They have fixed dates, so check them first.

Different depths of exploration call for different loadouts. For early levels, keep your kit practical and light. As you push further in, the risks multiply and your supplies need to match.
| First-aid kit | treat injuries to yourself or anyone with you; threats are common even in early levels. |
| Large backpack | carry everything you find, especially as items become more valuable at higher levels. |
| Melee weapon | a machete or long knife is easy to conceal and creates no noise when used. |
| Firearm | powerful but produces loud noise that alerts nearby entities; only use one with a suppressor if possible. |
| Watch or timer | time behaves differently inside the Backrooms, so tracking it matters. |
| Almond Water | a useful resource to stockpile before heading into an unknown level. |
Entities appear throughout the Backrooms.
Firearms make a loud burst of noise that alerts entities to your position. If you do carry one, use a suppressor to reduce that risk.
Stay calm and avoid making noise. Take in your surroundings to identify which level you are in.
