First things to do when you spawn
StepThe moment you load in, look around for any item on the ground and pick it up — that single action unlocks your first achievement. From there, find a shop and buy anything, even a cheap item, to get your first purchase done. Vending machines are separate from shops, so track one down and use it as well.
- Pick up any item grab the first thing you see on the floor to get going immediately.
- Visit a shop one purchase is all it takes, so don't wait until you have a lot of credits.
- Use a vending machine these are different from shops, so make sure you hit both.
- Check your inventory items you collect are managed there, and you can expand how much it holds later.
- Bring friends if you can up to 15 players fit in one room.
Earning and growing your credits
TipsCredits are the in-game currency you spend at shops and on upgrades. You earn them by looting items as you explore. Set 50,000 credits as your first milestone — once you hit one million, you will have put in serious time.
- Loot everything you come across — items you find during exploration are your main source of credits.
- Break rarity boxes above Contractor-Grade when you find them.
- Go after a contraband weapon at some point — obtaining one is its own achievement.
- Treat one million credits as a long-term goal and focus on 50,000 first.
Approaching puzzles
CheckEvery area of the Backrooms contains puzzles. Solving them is a core part of progressing, and the game rewards you at the five-puzzle and hundred-puzzle marks.
- Search rooms thoroughly puzzles can be tucked into corners of the environment.
- Hit five puzzles first the hundred-puzzle milestone is a long-term project, so start small.
Fighting enemies
WarnThe Backrooms has several enemy types, and most of the time avoiding them is the safer choice. When you do want to fight, the method matters.
Long-term progression — stash and rank
TableBoth goals take sustained play. Upgrading your stash lets you carry more loot. Rank rises as you keep playing.
| Stash capacity | upgrade it to the maximum level to carry more loot per run and unlock its achievement. |
| Omega Rank | the highest rank in the game, unlocked by continuing to play and progress over time. |
Things to watch out for
WarnThe developers have stated the game is not yet complete, so glitches and bugs will appear from time to time. On top of that, other players can kill you — the achievement for killing 20 players exists, which means some people are actively hunting.
