About

Overview

AOONI Nightmare brings the classic Japanese horror game Aooni to Roblox as a co-op escape experience for up to 16 players. You and your classmates are trapped in a nightmare school and must clear a series of classes to get out — all while a blue monster hunts you through the halls. This guide covers the stages, how to survive, how to work with your team, and how to earn the in-game currency.

01

How the game is structured

Summary
In short The game sends you through a sequence of classes, and each one has its own challenge to clear before you can move on.

A full run moves through multiple classes in order, starting with search stages and building toward action-heavy and puzzle stages. Badges confirm every major milestone — clearing each search stage, surviving to the end, collecting specific items, and solving puzzles.

  • Search stages locate and collect items scattered through the school
  • Drill stage a timed or obstacle-based action class
  • Bomb stage another action class with an explosive threat
  • Gekou stage its own distinct challenge in the sequence
  • Squat stage a physical challenge class
  • Puzzle stages three separate puzzles: a safe, a radio, and a seating chart

Starting out: lobby setup and first steps

Step
In short A minute of setup in the lobby pays off across every run you play.

Before a round starts, use the lobby to get your settings right. The game description recommends max graphics and headphones — headphones in particular let you hear the monster's footsteps early. Your spawn point is a safe zone.

  1. Put on headphones or earbuds the game officially recommends them
  2. Hold Shift to sprint and Space to jump drill these controls before the first class begins

04

Flashlight discipline

Warn
In short Leaving your flashlight on is one of the fastest ways to get caught.

The flashlight reveals your position to the monster, so treating it like a torch you keep lit all the time is a mistake. Flick it on for a quick look, then turn it off immediately.

Worth watching out for
Turn the flashlight off the moment you have seen what you need to see
Rely on headphone audio to detect the monster when the light is off
05

Team roles for co-op runs

Table
In short Splitting into clear roles makes a chaotic 16-player lobby run far more smoothly.

Up to 16 players can join a single session. Two badges — one for finishing with 10 or more survivors and one for being the last player standing — show that both large-group teamwork and solo survival are valid paths.

Scoutleads the group, maps the monster's position, and relays danger through chat
Runnertakes the front in action stages and sets the pace for the team
Collectorfocuses entirely on item pickup during search stages, ideally assigned a specific zone
Safetystays near slower players, calls locker retreats, and helps anyone who falls behind
06

Coins and the item roulette

Tips
In short Clearing classes repeatedly is the free way to build up currency for the roulette.

Coins are earned by completing classes. Spending them at the item roulette gives you a shot at limited items and skins. Robux can be used to buy more coins if you want, but it is not required. Collaboration event rewards also hand out exclusive skins.

Tips worth knowing
  • Replay cleared classes to stack coins naturally
  • Join limited-time collaboration events for skins
  • Check the official group for update announcements about new skins and content

In short Each badge points to a specific task, so use the list to find the parts of the game you have not tried yet.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I play without spending Robux?

Yes. Coins accumulate naturally every time you clear a class, so you can reach the item roulette without spending anything. Some skins are also handed out as rewards during collaboration events, giving free players extra chances to earn cosmetics.

Can I play alone, or do I need a full group?

You can join and play solo. The LAST MAN STANDING badge even rewards finishing a run as the only survivor.

Is this too scary for younger players?

The game's own page describes it as containing mild horror elements, and Roblox rates it suitable from age 0. There are jump scares, but graphic violence is kept to a minimum.

What is Become Aooni Mode?

It is a PvP mode added in March 2026 in which one or more players take the role of the Aooni itself. Subsequent updates added Spider, Squatto, and Fuwatty versions of the mode, each featuring a different variant of the monster.
