Setup before your first mission

Check
In short A few quick settings changes make the Backrooms much easier to read and react to.

The Backrooms is built around atmosphere, and the game is designed to reward players who can hear and see it clearly. Turning up your volume means you won't miss strange sounds or warning cues. Maxing out graphics makes hidden details and environmental clues much easier to spot. The game runs on PC, mobile, and console, so adjust these settings wherever you play.

  • Turn your in-game volume up so you catch audio cues that signal danger or direction.
  • Set graphics to maximum so environmental details and puzzle clues are fully visible.
  • Play on whatever device you have PC, mobile, and console are all supported.
  • Join the official group and community server before you start so you have a place to ask questions and find teammates.

How missions work

Step
In short Reading the mission brief and splitting responsibilities with your team is the fastest path to completing an objective.

When you load in as an M.E.G. employee, the game gives your team a mission to complete inside the Backrooms. Missions range from guiding a lost traveler out of a level to closing No-clip zones.

  1. Read the objective before anyone moves, make sure every teammate knows what the mission is actually asking for.
  2. Ask whether everyone understood the goal the same way mismatched assumptions cause more failures than bad luck.

Puzzle and exploration tips

Tips
In short Puzzles in the Backrooms reward careful observation and shared information more than individual cleverness.

Paying attention to patterns, color, and object placement can open up solutions that aren't obvious at first glance.

Tips worth knowing
  • Share every small hint with your team out loud rather than holding it until you are sure it is relevant.
  • Listen to any NPC dialogue all the way through, since mission hints can be embedded in what characters say.
05

After a failed mission

Check
In short Most failures come down to a missed objective, a communication gap, or an unexplored area.

Failing a mission is not the end — repeat runs teach you things a single attempt cannot. The game is in alpha, so a technical problem is worth ruling out as well.

  • Check whether the mission objective actually completed or whether the team stopped just short of finishing it.
  • Ask whether everyone understood the goal the same way mismatched assumptions cause more failures than bad luck.
  • If something behaved strangely or broke, note what happened and when, and report it to the community server.
06

Free-to-play and community

Table
In short Every mission is available without spending anything, and the community is the best place to find teammates and stay up to date on changes.

You can play every mission in M.E.G. Endless Reality without paying anything, and free players and paying players take part in co-op on equal terms. Because the game is in alpha, updates arrive regularly, and the official group and community server are where those changes get announced first. If you don't have friends to play with yet, the community server is also where you find people to team up with.

Common questions

FAQ

Can I play by myself without friends?

The missions are designed around co-op. If you don't have friends available, the official community server is a good place to find other players to team up with.

What do I do if I run into a bug?

Since the game is in alpha, bugs can happen. Report what you found to the official group or community server, and try to describe when it happened and what you were doing — that detail helps the developers fix it faster.

Does playing on mobile put me at a disadvantage?

The game supports PC, mobile, and console. Controls and graphics performance will vary by device, so adjust your settings to match what your hardware can handle comfortably.

Do I need to spend Robux to access all the missions?

No — every mission is available to free players, and there is no difference in mission access between free and paying players.
