Controls to learn first

Check
In short Knowing every key before you start saves you from dying to something avoidable.

The game gives you a full control set from the moment you spawn. Spend a minute in a safe spot running through each key so none of them surprise you mid-fight.

  • M opens the Statistics Menu check your current level and equipped weapon here
  • M1 fires your weapon, M2 aims in, and R reloads use all three together
  • C brings out your fists for close-range fighting, and F blocks while fists are active
  • G triggers a melee strike even while you are holding a weapon
  • W+W sprints and Q quick-dashes
  • H summons or unsummons your horse, and N lets you mount or dismount

First steps in Ridge B Valley

Step
In short Your first job is to beat nearby enemies, grab their dropped weapons, and build up experience in familiar territory.

When you spawn, stay close to your starting area. The enemies near spawn are manageable, and fighting them repeatedly is the safest way to earn experience and find better weapons.

  1. Open the Statistics Menu press M and note your starting level and what weapon you have
  2. Find a nearby enemy look around the spawn area rather than wandering far
  3. Shoot from a distance aim with M2, fire with M1, and reload with R
  4. Switch to fists if the enemy closes in press C to punch and F to block incoming hits
  5. Loot the weapon an enemy drops equip it if it is stronger than what you are carrying
  6. Repeat in the same area enemy patterns become predictable
03

Gun fighting versus fist fighting

Table
In short Guns handle enemies at range while fists and melee cover you when something gets too close to shoot safely.

Both combat styles are available from the start. Fists deal less damage than guns. The melee key gives you a middle option when an enemy is right on top of you and you still have a gun equipped.

Ranged gunaim with M2, fire with M1, reload with R
Fist combatactivate with C, block with F; lower damage
Melee strikepress G with a weapon equipped; fast close-range hit without switching away from your gun
04

Leveling up and finding better weapons

Tips
In short Every enemy you defeat adds experience toward your next level.

Every enemy you defeat adds experience toward your next level. Higher levels let you take on tougher enemies, and tougher enemies drop better weapons. Check the Statistics Menu with M to see how your experience is growing.

Tips worth knowing
  • Stay in one region and fight the same enemies repeatedly to learn their positions and build experience
  • Always check weapon drops — enemies sometimes carry gear that is stronger than what you currently have
  • Open the Statistics Menu with M to see where your level and equipment stand
05

What to do when you keep losing

Warn
In short If an area is killing you repeatedly, pull back and grind at a lower-level zone before returning.

Check your gear before charging back in.

Worth watching out for
Do not re-enter a fight without checking your gear in the Statistics Menu first press M
If an enemy clearly outguns you, sprint away with W+W or quick-dash with Q
Summon your horse with H and mount it with N to put distance between you and a chasing enemy
Return to an easier area, grind experience until your level feels solid, then come back to the hard zone
06

Exploring the open world on horseback

Tips
In short Your horse turns a slow, dangerous trek into a fast ride that also gives you an escape route.

Ridge B Valley is large. Summoning your horse changes the math on both travel speed and survival.

Tips worth knowing
  • Summon your horse with H whenever you are moving between areas
  • Mount with N to ride
  • Sprint with W+W and quick-dash with Q on foot when you cannot reach your horse
07

Anticheat and the alpha state of the game

Warn
In short The game is in Early Alpha and has an anticheat system, so expect bugs and play within the rules.

Bridger: WESTERN is in Early Alpha, which means things can change or break without warning. The game also runs an anticheat system. The game's own page states that having a video clipping application such as Medal or ShadowPlay active is required if you want to be unbanned from anticheat. Everything else in the game is subject to change as development continues.

Worth watching out for
Install a clipping app like Medal or ShadowPlay before playing the game states this is required to be unbanned from anticheat
Expect bugs, sudden changes, and unfinished features because the game is in Early Alpha

Common questions

FAQ

Should I use guns or fists when I first start out?

Pick up any gun an enemy drops and use that as your main weapon. Fists deal less damage than guns.

Press H to summon or unsummon your horse whenever you like, and press N to mount or dismount.

What should I do if I keep getting killed by the same enemy?

Open the Statistics Menu with M and check your weapon and level. If your gear is weak, find a lower-level area to grind until you pick up something stronger, then come back and try again.

Do I need to spend Robux to progress?

Progression is built around defeating enemies to earn experience and collect weapon drops. Enemies drop weapons as they are defeated, which is the main way to upgrade your gear.
