Lost in the Desert – Abu Fanous is a survival horror game set in the Empty Quarter Desert, where a lantern-headed djinn named Abu Fanous hunts you across multiple chapters filled with puzzles, boss fights, and jinn encounters. Each chapter follows a different character and tells a completely separate story, so you can start with any one of them. This guide walks you through how each chapter works, how to handle the boss fights, and what to watch out for along the way.
In shortAll four released chapters are self-contained, but difficulty climbs sharply as you go forward.
Chapters 1 through 4 are currently available, with Chapter 5 released on October 16, 2026. Each chapter starts the same way — your character spots a mysterious light in the desert and follows it — but every chapter puts you in a completely different situation after that. The stories do not connect, so finishing one is not a requirement for entering another.
Chapter 1 camp in the dunes, then work through a sealed building, a house, a cave, and a maze
Chapter 2 stranded with a car needing gas, leads into the first boss fight and three possible endings
Chapter 3 Abu Fanous is the only antagonist throughout; ends in a three-phase boss fight
Chapter 4 opens at your house in the morning, then moves through a wedding venue, ruins, open sea, and an amusement park
In shortChapter 1 is split into two parts, each with its own badge, and a third badge for completing both.
You wake at a campsite with your car half-buried in sand. A jinn lures you toward a temple, and from there the chapter locks you into a series of escape puzzles. Finishing the cave section earns the Part 1 badge; finishing the maze earns Part 2 and the full Chapter 1 badge at the same time.

He returns again with a stronger revenge, how will you escape him again?
In shortChapter 2 introduces multiple endings determined entirely by what you do in the final boss fight.
You start stranded in the desert with an empty tank. An NPC named Arab Guy points you to a gas can and warns you about jinns ahead. The chapter moves through a campsite, a sealed temple, and a blind-Abu-Fanous section before reaching the boss fight against Al-'Ifrit.

Set up camp and prayafter isha, investigate the drum sounds, then escape the sealed entrance
Refuel the lanternscollect sticks down the hill to keep your campfire and lanterns lit for kahwa
Untie the knotsinside the temple maze, untie every knot to dissolve the black magic sealing the area

Chapter 3 boss fight phases
Tips
In shortLearn what each phase's dialogue line sounds like so you know when the attacks are about to get harder.
The boss fight against Abu Fanous runs through three phases based on his health. When he speaks 'You see me... and yet you don't,' the second phase begins. 'My flame burns brighter!' signals the third. Once you hear 'This ends now!' and his health drops below roughly 600, he stops most attacks — hit him as hard and fast as you can at that moment because this window can sometimes bug out and he resumes his patterns.
Tips worth knowing
Keep moving at all times to avoid fireballs — stopping even briefly makes you an easy target
Against donkey jinns, either wait for them to despawn on their own or cut them down with your sword
For the sweeper, circle around it in the middle of the arena or jump over it when the timing is right
Phase 3 combines the aggressive fireballs, the lights-off donkey jinn spawns, and the sweeper all at once — you have roughly one second between donkey jinns despawning and the sweeper returning
To reach the Nightmare Ending, you must not die once during the entire chapter, including the earlier stages and the boss fight itself

Chapter 3 and 4 endings at a glance
Table
In shortIn Chapter 3 your death history decides the ending; in Chapter 4 your actions in the amusement park do.
For Chapter 3, what matters is where you died — in earlier stages, in the boss fight, or not at all. For Chapter 4, the ending is set by which objective you complete in the amusement park boss arena.

In shortThe event ran from December 26, 2025 to October 16, 2026 and offered seven rides plus one badge.
The Abu Fanous Land event opened the amusement park from Chapter 4 as a standalone mode inside the lobby. To reach it, follow the arrows from the lobby area where players queue for Chapter 1. The only badge available from this event was 'To the Sky.'

Microtransaction warnings
Warn
In shortMost purchasable items in this game either do not function correctly or are lost the moment you die.
Pop-ups asking you to spend Robux appear at random throughout the lobby and inside chapters. Chapters lock the game to first person, which makes these pop-ups harder to dismiss. The developers acknowledged refund issues but the problems remain unresolved.
Worth watching out for
Items purchased inside a chapter are lost if you dieyou do not keep them on respawn
Jumpscare items bought while playing alone have no effect because there are no other players to target
The 'Become Abu Fanous' and 'Jumpscare Everyone' items in your hotbar trigger a purchase pop-up the moment you equip them
During the lantern-placing section of Chapter 2, a microtransaction object sits right next to the lantern spot and shares the same interaction key
09
Desert — the companion game
Tips
In shortDesert is a separate but related game by the same team where you run a karak and gahwa stall at night and serve a lineup of unusual customers.
Desert is set in the same Empty Quarter Desert and features Abu Fanous as an antagonist, but the two games are completely different experiences. Desert has no black magic elements and runs up to 6 players per round in its active sessions. You set up a stall, serve customers one after another, and deal with escalating chaos as the night goes on.
Tips worth knowing
Abu Fanous appears as a customer and orders three karaks, then sets the cups on fire — grab the fire extinguisher nearby to deal with it
When told to clean the bathrooms, check every stall — Abu Fanous is hiding in the last one
When Abu Fanous causes a car crash outside, hide in the bathroom until he leaves, then call the Haraam Police
An enclosed case in your stall holds a floating cloth from Chapter 1 of Lost in the Desert — interacting with it triggers random dialogue

Common questions
FAQ
Do I need to play the chapters in order?
No — each chapter has a completely separate story and a different main character, so none of them require you to have finished another first.
How do I get the Chapter 3 Secret Ending?
As soon as you spawn into Chapter 3, walk to the right side of the map and look for a grey, untextured block that sits slightly higher than the ground around it. Step on it before you do anything else in the chapter.
What is the difference between Lost in the Desert and Desert?
They are two separate games made by the same development team. Lost in the Desert is a chapter-based horror game with puzzles, boss fights, and confirmed black magic elements in its jinn circle scenes. Desert is a night-shift stall game where you serve customers — including Abu Fanous — without any black magic present. Both games feature Abu Fanous as a central character.
How does the Chapter 4 Nightmare Ending work?
During the final boss fight in the amusement park, you need to survive for 15 minutes without completing any of the other objectives — do not press the highlighted buttons and do not collect the fireworks. You cannot stay AFK due to the rocks falling nearby you.
