Blade Ball Guide: Basic controls on every platform
About
OverviewBlade Ball is a PvP battle royale on Roblox where a homing ball chases players and speeds up every time it is deflected — last one alive wins. You deflect with timing, survive with positioning, and pull ahead by picking and upgrading abilities that suit the way you like to play. This guide covers controls, blocking, abilities, advanced tactics, quests, and a new mode called Item Duels.

How the ball works
TipsAt the start of a round the ball sits in the center of the map at zero speed, targeting a random player. It turns red and moves toward whoever it is chasing; if it is not targeting you, it appears gray and cannot be hit. Each time someone successfully parries, the ball's speed increases slightly. When a player is eliminated, the ball resets to the center and picks a new target — unless you are using Golden Ball, in which case it keeps moving without resetting. The parry window lasts 500 milliseconds, so timing matters more than button mashing.
- Watch for the ball turning red — that is your cue that it is heading for you.
- Shiftlock pins your camera directly behind your character, making the ball's path easier to track.
- In the final two-player Standoff the ball accelerates continuously.
- Curving works by aiming your camera in the direction you want the ball to go at the moment you parry — including backward or upward.
Combat tactics
TipsOnce parrying feels natural, these tactics are what separate players who survive the early rounds from players who win matches outright. None of them require a specific ability — they all come down to movement and awareness.
- Curving: the ball travels in the direction your camera is aimed when you parry, so turning your view before you block lets you send the ball in any direction — including behind you to wrong-foot an opponent.
- Clashing is a close-range exchange where two players parry back and forth; the one who clicks too early, too late, or not at all loses.
- Pressured clashing means chasing the ball closely after an opponent deflects it so you can return it immediately and keep them under constant pressure.
- If the ball is moving faster than you can comfortably handle, back off to an open area and let the round thin out before re-engaging.
- To get out of a pressured clash, flick your cursor toward a third player nearby — if the ball redirects to them, the pressure on you breaks.
How abilities work
SummaryThere are 60 abilities in total — 32 you can buy outright with coins and 28 that are limited or obtainable only through special means such as event spins or packs. Active abilities trigger on command and always come with a cooldown that starts the moment you activate them, not after the effect ends. Passive abilities need no activation and stay on until you die. Most purchasable abilities support two upgrades: the first upgrade costs half the ability's purchase price, and the second costs the full purchase price. Upgrading improves the ability's power and lowers its cooldown, and reaching the maximum upgrade level sometimes unlocks a cosmetic reskin.
- Active triggered manually, always has a cooldown
- Passive always running, no cooldown mechanic
- Upgrade 1 cost half the base purchase price
- Upgrade 2 cost equal to the base purchase price
- Event abilities most cannot be upgraded through normal coin purchases
Ability spotlight — five worth knowing
TipsThese five abilities cover a range of playstyles and price points.
- Raging Deflection (4,000 coins) acts as a second parry when your normal block is on cooldown and roughly doubles the ball's speed on contact — use it during a clash to catch opponents off guard, or fake an early activation and then curve the ball behind you.
- Blade Trap (10,000 coins) places a visible trap that catches the ball in a spinning blade barrier and releases it in a random direction at boosted speed; the release direction is unpredictable, but opponents can flick the ball around the trap — including vertically — to stop it activating.
- Golden Ball (7,000 coins, passive) keeps the ball in play after you eliminate someone instead of resetting it to center — after an upgrade it also temporarily speeds the ball up by 15% on elimination.
- Guardian Angel (20,000 coins, passive) automatically blocks for you once per match when you miss a parry; it is disabled during Standoffs, and the first upgrade adds a second protection charge.
- Death Slash (obtained via event spins, jackpot prize) triggers a skill-check mini-game just before you parry — nail the timing and you get full control over the ball's direction with a big speed boost; miss it and the ball continues at normal speed.
