RIVALS is a first-person shooter on Roblox where you challenge other players in duels ranging from 1v1 to 5v5, and the first side to reach 5 points wins the match. There is no pay-to-win: a player using the starting handgun can beat someone with an expensive weapon through skill alone. This guide covers how to get started, how to earn keys, how to pick weapons, how to climb toward ranked play, and how win streaks work.
In shortWalk onto a duel pad in the lobby and the game handles matchmaking from there.
When you load in you will find yourself in a lobby. Duel pads are plates on the floor that you step on to enter matchmaking. Before you worry about anything else, just step on one and play a few rounds to get a feel for how the game moves.
Find a duel padwalk up to one of the plates in the lobby and step on it to start matchmaking.
Pick 1v1 to startfacing one opponent makes it easier to focus on your aim and movement without chaos around you.
Use your starting loadoutan assault rifle, handgun, fists, and grenade are free from the beginning, so you do not need to buy anything first.
Play to 5 pointsthe match ends when one side reaches 5, so track how many you take each round.
In shortPlaying matches, finishing tasks, and completing contracts is all you need to do to earn keys without spending Robux.
Keys are the in-game currency used to unlock weapons and skins. You earn them by playing matches, completing daily and bonus tasks, and hitting contract milestones. Daily tasks reset every day, and skipping one resets your task streak. Bonus tasks do not reset overnight, so you can pick up where you left off.
Stack your task streakreaching Days 2, 4, 6, and 7 of a streak rewards Prize Wheels that can contain keys, wraps, and even rare skins.
Set a key target for your first Prime weaponFlamethrower costs 400 keys, Energy Rifle costs 425 keys, Minigun costs 450 keys, and Paintball Gun costs 475 keys.
Do not chase Contraband weapons earlythey only come from Crates at a 1–5 percent chance, so build your key reserve on directly buyable weapons first.
Weapon categories and what makes each one different
Table
In shortMatch your weapon to your preferred range and playstyle rather than just picking the rarest one.
Weapons are split into four categories: Primary, Secondary, Melee, and Utility. Rarity goes Standard, Prime, and Contraband, with Contraband being Crate-only. Every weapon has its own ability triggered by right-click, with a cooldown between uses. There are 53 weapons in total, with 5 being gamemode exclusive.
Assault Rifle (Standard, free)
an all-range generalist that works from your first match through high-level play.
Flamethrower (Prime, 400 keys)
strong in tight corridors, with fuel that regenerates so you rarely run empty.
Energy Rifle (Prime, 425 keys)
fires unlimited shots that bounce off walls twice, letting you angle around cover.
Paintball Gun (Prime, 475 keys)
deals sustained damage and blurs the hit opponent's vision on contact.
Minigun (Prime, 450 keys)
very high fire rate and accuracy, but cuts your movement speed by 25 percent, so it suits a defensive position.
Permafrost (Contraband, 600 keys)
slows an enemy more with each hit, reaching up to 50 percent reduced speed, making it one of the strongest weapons available.
05
Primary and secondary weapon options
Tips
In shortPick a primary for your preferred range and a secondary that covers the situations your primary struggles with.
You carry one primary and one secondary into each match. Primaries cover most of the combat, while your secondary fills gaps when your primary runs dry or the range shifts.
Tips worth knowing
Primary options include the Assault Rifle, Burst Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper, Minigun, Flamethrower, Energy Rifle, Paintball Gun, Crossbow, Gunblade, RPG, Scepter, Distortion, and Permafrost.
Secondary options include the Handgun, Revolver, Shorty, Energy Pistols, Flare Gun, Warper, Exo Gun, Slingshot, Daggers, and Spray.
06
Movement habits that reduce how often you get hit
Tips
In shortStaying mobile and managing your ammo matters more than having an expensive weapon.
Most early losses come down to standing still while shooting, running dry on ammo at the wrong moment, or ignoring a weapon's ability. Fixing those three habits will improve your results faster than any unlock.
Tips worth knowing
Keep moving while you aim — strafing side to side makes you harder to track.
Watch your ammo count and reload before you push into a fight, not during one.
Use your weapon's ability on cooldown rather than saving it for a perfect moment that never comes.
Stay at a range that suits your weapon — close up for shotgun-style weapons, back off for rifles.
Try bunny hopping by jumping repeatedly to maintain speed while moving between positions.
In shortDaily tasks and contract milestones are the most reliable way to collect cosmetics and keys without spending Robux.
Beyond keys, contracts reward wraps and charms when you hit their milestones. During limited-time events, daily tasks pay out event currency such as Pearls or Candy that you can trade for exclusive skins and emotes. The Glory Shop lets you spend points earned in ranked matches on certain skins.
Equip the weapon you want to progressits kill count and playtime update automatically during matches.
Visit the Glory Shop after ranked matchessome skins there cost Glory points rather than keys.
Set a long-term contract goal such as the Dark Matter Wrap at 40,000 kills on a single weapon so you have something to work toward between ranked sessions.
09
Win streaks and recovery
Summary
In shortIf you lose a win streak, spend keys to recover it before playing another streak-eligible gamemode, or you start a 24-hour countdown to do so.
A win streak tracks consecutive match wins. Losing it does not mean it is gone immediately — you can spend keys to restore it. The recovery cost rises each time you use it on the same streak, and the window to recover closes once you play another streak-eligible gamemode and let 24 hours pass.
1st recovery 5 keys
2nd recovery 10 keys
3rd recovery 20 keys
4th recovery 40 keys
5th recovery 80 keys
6th recovery and beyond 100 keys each
24-hour timer starts after you play another streak-eligible gamemode following the loss; if you do not play one, the timer never begins
New streaks you can start a fresh streak while a lost one is still recoverable; the two are tracked separately

Ranked mode and how to reach it
Summary
In shortMeet all five requirements to unlock ranked, complete ten placement matches to set your starting rank, then protect your ELO with daily shields and plan your loadout before you queue.
Ranked play comes in 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 formats. Winning raises your ELO and losing drops it, and your rank moves through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Onyx, Nemesis, and Archnemesis — with Archnemesis reserved for the top 200 players. Three rules change compared to casual play: third-person view is disabled, auto-shoot is limited to Dynamic mode, and you can only swap your loadout twice per duel. Each team can also ban one map and two weapons at the start of a match, though the Assault Rifle, Handgun, Fists, and Grenade cannot be banned unless every player on both teams owns five or more weapons in the relevant category.
Level requirement reach Level 100
Duel requirement complete 10 standard duels (wins and losses both count)
Account age Roblox account must be at least 14 days old
Task requirement complete at least 30 tasks
Account verification add an email address, purchase Robux, or verify with ID depending on your account status
Placement matches the first 10 ranked matches set your starting rank
Loadout changes per duel limited to two, so choose your starting weapons carefully
ELO Shield one free shield per day for players below Platinum I after rank confirmation; it blocks one loss from reducing your ELO and cannot be stacked
Ranked rewards Glory points earned here can be spent in the Glory Shop on exclusive skins
11
Actions that can get your account banned
Warn
In shortRIVALS enforces a permanent ban for cheating with no second chances, and the same goes for glitch abuse and sketchy farming.
The game's own description states that cheaters are permanently banned with no appeals, and that the anti-cheat system plus moderators are both actively watching. Abusing FFlags that give unfair advantages falls under the same rules as cheating.
Worth watching out for
Using cheat software or auto-aim tools triggers a permanent ban with no second chance.
Abusing in-game glitches or running farming scripts is also a bannable offence under the same rules.
Abusing certain Roblox FFlags that provide unfair advantages is treated the same as cheating and can result in a permanent ban.

Common questions
FAQ
Can you unlock good weapons without spending Robux?
Yes. Keys drop from every match you play, and contract milestones add more on top of that. Prime weapons like the Flamethrower and Energy Rifle are buyable directly with keys, so you do not need to touch Robux to get them. Contraband weapons come from Crates rather than direct purchase, so those take longer regardless of spending.
Which mode is best for a new player?
Start with 1v1 duels. Having only one opponent on screen means you can watch what they do and learn from each exchange without being overwhelmed. Move to 2v2 or 5v5 once your aim and movement feel comfortable.
Does playing on a phone put you at a disadvantage?
RIVALS supports phones, tablets, Xbox, and PlayStation 5, so you can play on any of them.
How do contracts make progress?
Equip the weapon you want to advance, then just play matches normally — the kill counter and playtime timer update automatically.
What changes when you enter ranked mode?
Third-person view is disabled, auto-shoot is limited to Dynamic mode, and you can only change your loadout twice per duel. Completing ten placement matches sets your starting rank, and from there wins raise your ELO while losses lower it across eight tiers from Bronze up to Archnemesis, with Archnemesis reserved for the top 200 players.
What is the best weapon to start with?
The Assault Rifle is free and works at close and medium range. For your secondary, the Handgun or Shorty are both straightforward to use.
Are there redeem codes for RIVALS?
Yes. This site tracks the currently working codes — check the codes section for the live list. Codes must be entered via the Reward Button in the in-game shop, and you need to be following at least one of the developers at the time you redeem them.
What are the full requirements to unlock ranked mode?
You need to reach Level 100, complete 10 standard duels, have a Roblox account that is at least 14 days old, complete at least 30 tasks, and verify your account by adding an email address, purchasing Robux, or verifying with ID depending on your account status. Once all five are met, your first ten ranked matches are placement matches that set your starting rank.
What happens if I lose my win streak?
You can spend keys to recover it. The cost starts at 5 keys for the first recovery and rises with each subsequent recovery on the same streak, reaching 100 keys from the sixth recovery onward. If you play another streak-eligible gamemode after losing the streak, a 24-hour timer starts — let it expire and the streak is gone for good.
