Your first characters

Tips
In short Paper and Baldi are the free starting characters.

Three survivors are free from the start: Paper, LokiFunnyCat, and Reddishfishy. On the killer side, Baldi costs nothing. Every other character in the roster requires in-game currency to unlock.

Tips worth knowing
  • Paper — free survivor, 100 health, walk speed 12, run speed 24
  • LokiFunnyCat — free survivor, 100 health, walk speed 12
  • Baldi — free killer, 1250 health in base form and 3000 in powered-up form

How survivor abilities work

Tips
In short Each survivor's abilities have cooldowns that lock them out for several seconds after use.

Survivors are not helpless — their abilities can stun killers, relocate teammates, go invisible, or give speed boosts. Every ability has a cooldown that locks it out for several seconds after use. The points below cover what each ability actually does.

Tips worth knowing
  • Paper's Slash deals 30 damage and stuns the killer for 3 seconds on a hit, and briefly gives Paper Resistance II for 0.75 seconds when activated.
  • Paper's Slash also slows Paper down by 75% for 1.575 seconds after use.
  • LokiFunnyCat's Bloxy Cola grants Speed I for 10 seconds.
  • LokiFunnyCat's Ghostburger makes him invisible and undetectable for 10 seconds.
  • Cindering's DETENTION sends a survivor in front of him to the furthest spawn from the killer, then inflicts Helpless I on them for 12 seconds.
  • 00ff00's GR33NGUI makes her stand still for 5.5 seconds before teleporting to the furthest survivor spawn; any hit during those 5.5 seconds cancels it completely.
03

Survivor passives and special traits

Table
In short Some survivors have always-on passives that change how they play, independent of any ability cooldown.

Check these before picking a character — a passive can define the whole playstyle.

SurvivorPassiveWhat it does
00ff00DEXAlways shows the location of the furthest survivor spawn from her
AdjudiInteractive OrbOrb announces to Adjudi and nearby survivors whenever the killer activates an ability; destroy the orb and LOCKDOWN and CRASH are lost
DummyInvalid HumanoidAll applied status effects are ignored by Dummy
DummyType StateDummy cannot regain health by any means
DummyLinear MobilityDummy instantly transitions from walking to running
04

Playing as a killer

Tips
In short Killers win by managing ability cooldowns and using each character's kit at the right moment.

Every killer has a basic attack on a short cooldown and stronger abilities on longer ones.

Tips worth knowing
  • Baldi's Slash sits at a 1.9-second cooldown; Behead sits at 18 seconds.
  • Baldi gets Slowness I for 2 seconds after using Behead whether it hits or not.
  • Gubby Blast stuns the target and pulls them in front of Gubby, and deals 35 damage.
  • Drooling Zombie's Bloodlust passive tracks the nearest survivor at all times regardless of distance or statuses.
  • Drooling Zombie's Infection can turn survivors into weaker zombies; those zombies' health scales with the number of sentinels remaining in the game and they can share in kill rewards.
05

LMS music triggers

Tips
In short Certain character pairings swap the background music to a unique track when both are in the same match.

LMS stands for Last Man Standing. When specific survivors and killers are in the same session together, the game plays a dedicated track.

Tips worth knowing
  • Paper and Baldi in the same match triggers a track called LESSON.
  • 00ff00 and Gr33n F4lla in the same match triggers a dedicated track of their own.

Common questions

FAQ

Which characters can I use without spending any currency?

Paper, LokiFunnyCat, and Reddishfishy are the free survivors. Baldi is the free killer.

How many players fit in one room?

A single room holds up to 25 players.

Why does Baldi have two health numbers?

Baldi has 1250 health in his base state and 3000 in his powered-up state. His walk speed, run speed, and stamina also change between the two states.

When should I use 00ff00's GR33NGUI?

Any hit during the 5.5-second wind-up cancels the teleport entirely. It moves you to the furthest survivor spawn from your current position.

What happens if Adjudi's orb is destroyed?

Once the orb is destroyed, the LOCKDOWN and CRASH abilities stop working for the rest of that match. The orb also announces to Adjudi and nearby survivors whenever the killer activates an ability.
