Dead Rails is a cooperative survival game set in 1899, where a zombie plague has swept across America and the only cure is in Mexico. You and your teammates board an armed train and fight through zombie-infested desert, managing fuel, repairing the train, looting towns, and dividing roles by class.
In shortMatch your class to your role in the team.
Classes change your starting equipment, passive abilities, and overall role. Some reward solo play, others only shine in a group. There are currently 33 classes available, and you buy them with Bonds at the Tailor in the lobby.
Conductor
saves money and improves fuel efficiency; good for keeping the train moving.
Miner
starts with a Pickaxe and Mining Helmet, earns quick cash from ore, and the helmet helps visibility at night.
Survivalist or Cowboy
suited to aggressive, frontline combat.
Doctor
useful in a team, especially in a pinch and early-game situations; less useful solo unless you want the healing items.
Werewolf
big boosts to speed, attack, and HP at night, but weakens during the day; avoid combat during daylight hours.
Demolitionist
immune to all explosion damage, useful if Dynamite Zombies are a recurring problem.
Necromancer
lets you push forward and fall back to revived units.
Alamo
great for setting up defences early and can complete the barricading strategy faster than other classes.
Knight
offers a bit of extra protection in the early game without Ironclad's debuff.
None
no passive and no starting gear, no extra debuffs, for players who want a pure challenge.
In shortSpend your Bonds on Starting Items that your class does not already give you.
Starting Items are purchased with Bonds at the General Store in the lobby. When a run begins, they appear as a Crate you interact with to collect. They cannot be sold, and they are consumed the moment you join a game even if the Crate goes unopened.
Tips worth knowing
The Rifle has high damage, good range and piercing ability, and carries a strong money-to-Bond ratio.
Snake Oil heals over time and boosts movement speed; it has the best money-to-Bond ratio of any Starting Item.
A Helmet cannot be bought in in-game stores, so purchasing one in the lobby gives you guaranteed head-hitbox protection and 15% damage reduction from the very start.
A Chestplate is the highest damage-reduction armour piece at 20% and is not guaranteed to appear in stores.
Do not buy a Starting Item your class already gives you unless you plan to hand it to a teammate.

In shortKeep daytime for looting and fuel, nighttime for barricading and defence.
The game moves through day and night continuously. The train's whistle is your warning to get back on board — miss it and you are left behind. Biomes shift the rules without warning: when you see the 'Entering [Biome Name]' message, adjust immediately.
Coal is a fuel source; pick it up whenever you find it.
Zombie corpses after a fight can also be fed into the boiler.
When the whistle sounds, return to the train immediately.
At night, use Sheet Metal and a Hammer to board up windows and doorways.
In a Blood Desert biome, Vampires spawn even during the day.
In an Acid Desert biome, Acid Skeletons appear.
The Unicorn Biome replaces normal wolves with Unicorns, making it the best place to attempt the Tame a Unicorn badge.

In shortA properly barricaded cab with Sheet Metal and Barbed Wire gives you a strong defensive position.
Sheet Metal is the core material for sealing the train against night attacks. Barbed Wire is optional but adds a layer of damage to anything that tries to climb in. This setup requires 4x Sheet Metal, 2x–4x Chairs, and 12 Barbed Wire. The Alamo class can complete it faster than other classes.
Cover the left windowplace one Sheet Metal so it completely blocks the left window of the train cab.
Seal the cabin entranceplace two Sheet Metal pieces vertically across the entrance to the cabin.
Add chairs outsideput one or two chairs on each side of the cabin exterior.
Block the forward windowsplace one or two more chairs against the forward-facing windows.
Cover the driver's windowrun Barbed Wire across the front driver window.
Optional extra wireadditional Barbed Wire at the cabin entrance and along the roof edges kills enemies that try to climb up.

Solo and team strategies
Tips
In shortPlanning your first purchases and fuel supply decides how far you get.
Solo play forces you to handle fuel, combat, and repair simultaneously. In a team, dividing roles clearly from the start matters.
Tips worth knowing
Solo players should sell the starting gold bar and use the money on a revolver, ammo, and coal.
Do headshots consistently to stretch your ammo supply when clearing buildings or towns.
In a team, have one designated player stay at 70,000 metres toward the end of the run — if others die at the finish, that player secures the win.
A Cowboy-Conductor-Miner-High Roller team can split tasks; the Miner focuses on gold and coal only, avoiding silver.
For a coal-focused team of three, pool purchases so the run starts with around fifteen pieces of coal, enough to reach the end.
When farming Bonds, equip Cowboy, buy Revolver ammo and a little coal, then loot Banks in each town before resetting — each bank awards around 2 to 4 Bonds, so a full playthrough with all banks looted can yield at least 16 Bonds.
Melee weapons will not wake sleeping zombies (as long as you do not damage them), so use them for quiet clearing when you can.
Faster classes can lure all zombies away from a town by running into their detection range and then out again, letting you return and loot safely.

Badges and challenges
Tips
In shortDistance badges come naturally from surviving longer runs, while special badges and challenges need deliberate effort but reward you with Bonds and Star Points.
There are 26 badges in total, with 14 currently obtainable. Distance badges unlock as the train hits each 10 km mark up to 80 km. Challenges are viewed on the Challenge Board in the lobby, and completing one awards Bonds and Star Points. Weekly Challenges reset every Sunday at midnight UTC, and you receive three randomly selected ones each week.
Tips worth knowing
To collect all distance badges, stock up on as much money as you can and buy enough coal to reach the end; the Conductor class is recommended for fuel efficiency.
The Milestone Challenge 'Escape' requires travelling 80 km and lowering the bridge — completing it pays 5 Bonds.
To find a Unicorn for the Tame a Unicorn badge, look for a white horse with a horn and purple mane; the Unicorn Biome has a much higher spawn rate, so travel back and forth across it if the first pass turns up nothing.
The Vampire Knife badge is earned simply by picking one up — the Vampire class starts with one, so you can get it immediately on that class.
The 'Bounty Hunter' milestone challenge requires you to kill 5 Outlaws and then turn in their bounties at a Sheriff's Office.
Weekly Challenges reset every Sunday at midnight UTC, so check the board at the start of each week.
Completing a challenge rewards both you and any teammates present, except for Weekly Challenges.

Redeeming codes
Step
In shortCodes give you free Bonds and expire, so redeem them promptly.
Developers release promotional codes through official social channels. Each code can only be redeemed once, and expired codes show an 'Expired' message. Bonds earned from codes can be spent at the Tailor to unlock classes.
Open the input fieldclick the settings icon or the Twitter icon on the lower-left of the lobby screen.
Enter the code exactly.
Press Redeemyour Bonds or items are added immediately if the code is still active.

When runs keep falling apart
Warn
In shortMost collapses trace back to a small set of fixable problems.
If your team keeps wiping during night defence or the train keeps stopping, check each of these before starting another run.
Worth watching out for
No one is watching the boilerassign a dedicated fuel person.
Broken barricades are being ignoreda single unrepaired wall lets enemies pour in continuously.
Everyone picked the same classidentical classes leave healing, repair, or combat roles unattended.
Players are going outside at nightstay on the train during defence phases.
Gear has not been upgraded since the startvisit every Fortified Town and spend your valuables on better armour and weapons.
No light source at nightwithout a Lantern, visibility drops sharply.

Common questions
FAQ
Is Werewolf actually worth playing?
At night, Werewolf gets major boosts to speed, attack power, and health. During the day those advantages drop away, so you should avoid combat during daylight hours. Note that there is sometimes a glitch where you retain the damage buff in the morning but still have the 10% debuff on speed and health.
How do I unlock more classes without spending Robux?
Play runs and collect Bonds, which are awarded at the end of each session and when you complete challenges. Spend those Bonds at the Tailor in the lobby to gradually unlock stronger classes. Redeeming promotional codes from the developer's official social channels is another way to add Bonds.
What is the difference between badges and challenges?
Badges are permanent Roblox achievements unlocked by specific actions — travelling a certain distance, finding a hidden item, or defeating a boss. Challenges are tasks listed on the Challenge Board in the lobby that pay out Bonds and Star Points when completed; Weekly Challenges reset every Sunday at midnight UTC.
How do Run Objectives work?
When you join a new game you automatically receive one random easy objective, and you can pick up more from the objective board at each Fortified Town, up to a maximum of three at a time. Any player in the group can contribute progress toward the same objective. Rewards include Bonds and in-run cash.
